Yah, I would really like some help with making this a bit more realistic looking. Here is my light set up in blender:

Image

I have noticed that error with the glass where that split is and I'm fixing it.But what can I do to the lighting and the materials? Not sure if I really have the time to model more detail into the model :/ - I used the aluminium material that comes in the live DB for the bottle and I feel that's what is killing this the most. Does anyone have a better solution?

Not sure if it helps but here is my octane view^

Try using an indoor HDR for your lighting. Should help with the reflections and refractions.

That material definitely does not read as aluminum. You need to increase that IOR to a higher value...4-6 maybe? Specular colour to 3/4 white.

Hope this helps.

best,

Thanks for the tip about the aluminum, I'm new to rendering still and thought the live DB material would work. Must be an old one. I'll be sure to find a HDR light map, hopefully that fixes the issue. Thanks!

Huh, I keep having issues with rendering sadly. This is a different scene. Not toooo sure if it's working out so some critique would be nice. I'm having trouble trying to get textures the way I want them to look on mix material nodes. I have no idea what I'm doing :/ - I can't seem to get materials the way I want them to look.

Also what would be a good way to get the boxes to look better? I think they should be a mix material between glossy and diffuse but again I seem to have issue with getting the mix materials looking nice.

I don't know what the thing is: but I'll take two!

They're just some creatures in jar. I'll need to improve them quite a bit more in my opinion. Maybe when I have the time for it.

At any rate, I got a new project happening and I think it would be good to post some stuff here. I have 2 other vehicles but I need to adjust the models a bit more in comparison to this one. Which I think just needs a few more tweaks. Not materials really on it other than glossy and a hdri map for the lighitng.

Any critiques on the design?

The idea is an automated transport truck for goods and the like. No wheels yet sadly XD - Gonna be doing that now. When I get the design ironed out more I will be tapering the back a bit so it's a little less square but until then it's a lot easier to adjust the design without the taper.

Some more renders! Needs more tweaking modelling wise, but overall it's working I think. The wheels are a bit too large and I'll need to adjust materials overall as well.

Any critiques?

Looks good: only thing is the edges are a bit sharp. Try to bevel them a little and it will be perfect.

PS: I'm also a little baffled at how to set up my own materials but for what it's worth, here is a thread where I learned painfully how to setup a mix material for cloth material:

I actually got some good tips on using the mix shader in a thread that I can't seem to find at the moment :/

Yah, those edges need to be beveled. I used sub-d but I don't think they're enough at some points now that I look at it again.

Another design I'm doing:

It's still a bit rough, I liked my initial sketch but now I need to tweak it some more. It also needs lights :P - It had some before but I ended up getting rid of them.

Critiques welcome, I plan on making it a bit longer and a fairly detailed interior.

...Automated car and such.

Huh, so I've been working on it a bit. Just need some help when it comes to the car material or maybe the Hdri? Anyone have any good resources for HDRI's for cars? Or maybe a tutorial about lighting cars for photoshoots? Thank you!

Not too happy with the material stuff at the moment. The design is almost done. I need to add a few more details and just checking the materials.

Also anyone have a good idea how to make a good tire material? Tires really annoy me at the moment.
