Hey Boris,
I'd also be very keen to hear about your experiences with extension cables and why they failed for you.

There are lost of people aparently using them successfully for other applications, specifically Bitcoin mining. Shielding is important they say. Have you tried properly shielded cables?

PS: impressive system you got there!

Titans for Octane is a waste of money also. 780TI`s are cheaper and more performance giving. Titans are FP64 enabled, and more RAM of course. Octane does not use FP64 (like Quadro`s). If you can not manage your textures or if your scenes are HUGE, you need VRAM, but if you can handle these, use 780TI`s and keep them cool.

i'm just replacing my 2 'olds' gtx 580 with a couple of gtx 780ti OC gigabyte windforce (1085 ghz frequency boost - 600€ each card ).

Hoping a gain of 2x + , with these 5760 cuda cores compared to the old system ( unfortunaly, 1 fermi-cuda-core = about 3 kepler-cuda core ),

i'll tell you the results soon.

I hesitate a long time with waiting the 'maxwell' new generation, but apparently, the strongest maxwell cards will be out only late next year ( GTX 870/880, the 880 is expected with around 5800 cuda cores (!) ).

For now, i'm just waiting for the 780ti cards, which should arrrive normaly tomorrow: i can't wait anymore !! :D

I've just installed and tested the GTX 780 ti.

Not really surprised, it reaches what i was waiting for:
compared to the 2 GTX580, they perform between 1.8x and 2.5x speed, depending the scene.

Note that the 780ti are overclocked factory model: i've measured with XPRECISION tool the clock of GPU's and it is announced 1137 mhz when rendering with octane ( ( without boosting manually the frequencies. On the paper, only 1085 mhz with boost ).

But beyond these numbers , it is a very sensitive gain of smoothness when adjusting lights and textures and that's the most important for creating pictures...

I also have a small question about a new build.
Want to put 4 x 780 ti in my new system. I was wondering how much RAM you need for such a machine.
Any one a good advice?

16GB is of RAM enough if You use 780,
though I would buy no less than 32GB.

cheers
