Here is the result of my tests with Octane SSS.
Grapes seemed to be a very good object to experiment on (since I´m not making any characters)
and I already had an evermotion model of grapes :)
So I did texturing, shading and lighting and a new mapping of the visible main twigs.
The water drops were modeled and distributed using particle flow in 3dsmax.

Post was only a few Filters like contrast and Sunlight in NIK.
Picture was rendered in 3000x1700 with Pathtracing, 12 bounces and only 2500 Samples in about 3 hours
on my two GTX 670. There is still some noise, but I find it kind of realistic when thinking about shooting this kind of scene with my DSLR.

Octane absolutely rules :)

Awesome, I wonder how you could get such a picture with such a res in just 3 hours on 670. I have a 680 and I feel like it sucks at times.
What are the light sources you have used to lit the scene?

Congrats!!

I have two GTX 670 4gb. The 680 is not so much faster than the 670 I think, and since
I have two cards ....
The lightsetup is really simple. It is just a simple room open on two sides.
In the back there are the windows you see in the render (no glass !) and on the left side it is completely
open. I have an HDRI shining through the windows and a big rectangle light infront
of the windows as well as in front of the big opening on the left side. So there is plenty of light coming into the room with just three lights and no extra emmitters, IES and so on.
Octane is amazingly fast with simple lighting with HDRI.
Add a few extra lights and a room with less openings and it slows down.
There are scenes where you need at least 10000 samples to get it noise free and
here it just took 2500. It looks pretty good at 1000 samples already. It´s really interesting: Every scene is different.
Ah ... and the other interesting thing: It sometimes really depends on the HDRI you choose.
Some produce more noise, others less.

Wow this is very realistic. I know you said it came from evermotion your texturing and SSS really adds to the ambiance.

Really nice render and textures !!! I think that the grape seeds must be more visible, some fruits look empty... :-)

Thank you for your in detail reply, I thought it was rendered with only one 670. Keep it up! :)
