@manalokos
I asked 2-3 years ago for the ability to set your default location for daylight in the preferences.
Now seems like a good time to revisit that request... While we are at it the crosshairs colour on the map is another thing that is not so good for my eyesight, perhaps a light blue would stand out more.
And...another small thing, well tiny actually, that goes unfixed, is the ortho views icon lacks a wee triangle to show there are options for it like the other icons with options.

Hi folks, i`m not in octane devs, but i can say this is development version. Octane main structure has been changed and still can continue to change. Also plugin devs are giving some feedback for needs or problems.
My idea is that you shouldn't behave as a final product. And this could give to you good oppurtinuty for making some suggestions.

Sadly I can't use 1.22 it is constantly losing my entire material tree every time I render. Luckily I still have that cloud backup.
Back to 1.20 I'm afraid until it becomes more stable.

That is probably not entirely true... But let me explain. I try to use the best of both worlds. I have a static scene with a flying camera. all geometry is still OBJ, but the camera is alembic.FrankPooleFloating wrote:Whoa. Hold on a sec... does Alembic completely bypass the need to reload scene on every frame for animations?!!!
!
Render that in the gui in stead of the cmd line and you do not need reload any geo after the scene has opened!
So if you have a scene with two characters, you could load the static environment on its own and only update the characters for maximum performance. (I have not tested if the alembic format is just as fast if you have everything in in one file, maybe it is.)
LOVE THIS RELEASE! (if only I could get the camera to work 100% in alembic that is

Found a bug. Octane doesn't read the .MTL files specular (Ks) values. Setting the .MTL file to (Ks 1.0 1.0 1.0) or (Ks 0.01 0.01 0.01) doesn't changes the specular value at all.

Seems like the timeline is gone every time you save and open the file again. the only way to get it back is to open a second octane project and import an alembic file. THEN you can copy paste your nodes over into that project.
Not really a great workflow! Is it possible to activate the timeline via script, or some other way?
thanks

Well, it's kind of expected that the release candidates are buggy, that's why they're release candidates. We really appreciate that bold users take a leap of faith and help us wield out the bugs
cheers,

Actually I'm surprised there are not any critical bugs (so far). That is actually really impressive after such a big rewrite imho. The stuff I have run into so far I have been able to "work around", hehe.
Speaking of that. can I force the timline to show up via script?

The timeline is only visible when something in the scene is actually animated. The same goes for scripting, when you define an animator, the timeline becomes visible.
There's a small example on how to set up an animator in the scripting forum:

There's currently no way in the Standalone to create your own animations, it must either come from:

- * An Alembic geometry archive.
* A Lua script.
* An integrated plugin.
