Of course hair, fur and subdiv (displacement)!

I would like to add ptex support to the list :)

These 3 are the most important:

UNDO
Multi UV channels
Rounded edges

We already have particles, and hair and fur, using particle instancing
volumetric is nice but not that important
render passes for an unbaised renderer, really??
subdivision surfaces? why do it on the renderer and not on the modelling software?
Multilight might be nice!
Region render too, although you can do it by copying the camera and zooming in on the image, and using lenshift

"render passes, really?"

Come on, guys ...

Obviously you can tweak a lot in octane in realtime. But in production there is A LOT you still want to touch in postproduction and some things might effectively not be doable inside octance. I would give a lot for some Multimatte /Object-ID .. we need good masks!

Additionally using FumeFX / Phoenix, we still need to switch to another render. That's ok, but without proper passes it's getting hard.

Seriously it's the main thing that holds us from using this great renderer from usage in production!

yes, render passes are very much demanded in our studio! If possible in the same go as the beauty pass.

Karba did mention Motion Blur along with Displacement in the first post of this thread. I assume he meant Object Motion Blur as Camera Based MB will ship with Octane v1.5.

Karba hi,
I'm one of the people who asks for hair support.
Would you be willing to add Ornatrix hair support as well if hair&fur passes the poll?

In ornatrix hair there is a modifier called OrnatrixVrayMod which enables vray to render hair in it own shader system.

If you step in to add hair&fur function in octane, I wonder if it will be somehow easy to implement Ornatrix as well. I'm guessing you'll have code a hair primitive in octane and it might be easy to implement to other hair plugins. Just like you added support for Forest Pack pro in the past?

@gabrielefx
I render hair not for hairy rugs but anim characters and product visuals.
I really would like see octane perform in hair.

Cheers,

Guys, please don't forget that we very much need Gradients in SDK as well, so plugs can use them.

This should have been in the poll.. unless you were already planning on adding them very soon.

I will be very sad if I see that Octane is straying away from Archviz into the pass of "all the other stuff" that really doesn't need unbiased rendering.
come on... Undo has only 5% votes? What world do we live in, is the user base mainly kids?

Octane should be the closest to virtual photography, no silly stuff, just plain reality at the reach of our hands, and our minds.

That is why we make this poll. We can see real situation.
Undo has only 5% probably because users mostly use plugins(not standalone) and they have undo in a host application.
