Which windows/softimage version?
How shows the crash, see the splashscreen from Octane, give Octane a messagebox?
More infos please, with octane crashes, i can´t work ;)
Maybe fill your computer spects in your profile, that will reduce the question about it...

Oh, I'm sorry. I am running win7 64bit, Softimage 2010 64bit. Hardware: cpu quadcore 9550 3.7GHz, 8gb ram, Gainward 285gtx 2gb ram, Asus maximus formula motherboard.
Whenever I want to export scene to Octane, and press "render frame" button, Softimage starts to export, but when I shoud expect Octane launching, there is a message that appears "octane.exe has stopped working". Here is what is written in problem details:
Problem signature:
Problem Event Name: APPCRASH
Application Name: octane.exe
...
Very curious...

What you can do to test:
Open the script editor.
Put a command on it, shown in the image below, and press the run button.
Click any render button. Preferred that one, that gives the crash.
After that, you become some infos from the exporter.
Search the cPara info at the bottom in the script editor.
All after "cPara:" is the commandline that will be send to Octane.
Copy all from the -m till the end of the line.
Hold down the shift key and right click on the Octane folder.
Choose "open command promt here"
Type in octane.exe
Put the copied commandline in the window by rightclick on it and choose paste.
It should look like "octane.exe -m......"
Press enter.
Hope that this workflow don´t work, while when it works, i don´t know what that can be ;)
When it not work, post the info. All between the first/last 3 lines is ok.
To disable the command, change the true to false.

Hope that helps...

I can't make it work at all.

There's no camera button picker, and when I try to set a project folder, it tells me "file does not exist".

The interface I see is different from what your using in the video. Do I have the correct plugin? it says 2.2.

I see the title of this thread is about XSI, but... is this designed to work with the final XSI, 7.01?

It should be shown as in the image below. In that image all options are on. On default is only the camera export on.
And please tell what specs you have. Which OS, which version of XSI/Softimage.
The first camera is picked automaticly and should be shown in the group "Export Camera".
Sometimes, when you have locked the export window, the exporter can´t refresh and new cameras will not shown.
To refresh, you can close/open the window or dis/enable the camera option.

Have you uninstall the old one?
When you load a scene with the old one, delete the old one in the Softimage explorer (key8).
The project folder must exist. You can create a new one in the project browser. Windows like.

It should work with XSI 7.01 but i have no chance to test them.
The addon is compiled with the 6.02 SDK and runs under 7.5-2011.
So i think, when it runs under the new versions, it should run under the old ones.
XSI 7.02 is pre Autodesk and they change the licensing system, so that i can´t install the old one with the dongle.

After some testing, here's some feedback.

Exported scenes work beautifully. I love actually being able to control where I want the camera to go! :P

Three issues though-

Whenever I fire up XSI it complains about the x64 portion of the plugin. Is there a way to fix that? (I'm on Vista 32)

I added a bunch of random obj files into xsi and built a little scene for testing. I exported to Octane. After looking at it, I then added a basic grid in XSI for them all to sit on, but when exported to Octane the grid didn't appear. I double checked the material, but no matter what I did, it wouldn't show.

I notice with the plugin it always launches Octane. Is there a way for it to load the scene into Octane if it's already running?

Thanks face, love your work ;)

Thanks ;)
a) Nomality XSI should choose the right dll, but you can browse to the addon folder and delete the octane_x64.dll. That should help.

b) Is the grid visible and a polymesh? Nurbs don´t work with Octane. The obj should export every time you hit the render button. To test it, read the timestamp of the obj.

c) No, no way. The workflow is, that you create a new project. In the first time, you hit the render button, Octane lanch and create a new scene, you set the materials and other things, which you don´t want to export, and save the scene. After that, every click on the render button loads the saved scene and use the things you have set up. Octane then change the old mesh, with the new exported one.

Hm, maybe a problem with the spaces in the project path?
