Please enable the "Verbose mode" in Octane global settings, and look at console messages...

I just enabled verbose mode, where are the console messages located?

*if console is the same as output window, im looking at it now, but what would i be looking for?

I have a light in the scene, and an octane camera and an octane material assigned to the geometry

The standalone app works, I tested it with the same geometry, what could this mean as the renderer idles on the default blue sreen?

Console - I just mean "Maya Script Editor".;) It is where you get all the messages from Maya.

Here is the reason. Too old CUDA compute model...

ok, it works now, i swapped out my graphics card with a new one. The standalone app renders ridiculously fast, but the maya plugin i can't get similar results,

i have a light in the scene and i tried adjusting the max samples size but it still looks the same, it barely shows up through the renderer.

am i missing something?

nevermind, i needed an environment and i guess im using the lights improperly
