Just re-checked it: in this version I have coded the LiveDB's work with national symbols in OctaneServer and Blender installation paths, so it will work without problems if you have such config. But there may be the problems if your scene which you open contains national symbols in path or file name. As Blender will attempt to create the textures folder for materials in the same folder as the opened .blend file.
I will improve it soon in next version.

seems to be a naming error in the liveDB, does anybody else have this one?

Thanks JS, another marvelous testbuild. However, I haven't been able to get the liveDB material previews, I click on the small world icon and wait but nothing happes. Also, when assigning a a material from the DB to a multi-material object, it automatically assigns it to all of them, and not just the one selected :(

Do you have some national symbols in .blend file path?

Nope, my OS is in English (Win8 Pro), and I always try to avoid using symbols/spaces in my paths/filenames:

Can you please check if you have the "livedb" folders created in "Program Files\OctaneServer" and in the folder containing your opened .blend file?

For me the live materialsdb crashing is because of the connection to Livedb, if it can't establish connection it closes octane blender without warnings.

Jim, I do not have national symbols, the folder "liveDB" is not in "Program Files \ Octane Server"
