The computer that loaded the test plugin, was my i5 laptop, but it still does not load the Octane plugin. My main i7 computer does not load the test plugin in LW 11.0, 11.5.1 or 11.6 and I get the same error as the Octane plugin.

OK ... so you can't install this test plugin in your main computer. But, can you install other LW plugins? ... try for example this one, the free DP nodes kit, for LW11 x64:
http://dpont.pagesperso-orange.fr/plugi ... 11_x64.zip

My test plugin is really simple ... it doesn't use any Octane or other libs. It is only a basic sample of render engine ... it is really strange that you can't install it, something I have not seen before.

The DP_Kit_11_x64.p loaded no problem on my main computer, it load 164 plugins.

Can you please open the installed software window available in your Windows 8 control panel and make a screen shot like this one with all your Microsoft Visual C++ packages?

I can't figure why the test plugin doesn't install. The only problem I can imagine is try to install it in a x32 LW or don't have the needed Visual C++ redistributable package :(

Anyway on Monday I will finish my holidays and in my office I have more computers to make tests to see if I can reproduce the problem.

Here is a screen shot of the Microsoft Visual C++ packages I had installed. I uninstalled all
packages and still got the same error. Now I only have the 2010 installed after I reinstalled it.
I installed LW 11.6 x32 and Octane x32 and still got the same error.

Tomorrow I will be in my office again after the holidays ... I will try to install the plugin in some nodes of my render farm and in a complete new computer to see if I can reproduce the problem.

So the x32 plugin doesn't work? ... anyway to run the x32 version you are going to need the VC++ x32 redistributable installed in your system.

when I installed Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x86) on my main computer. LW 11.6 x32 loaded the Octane plugin x32 (104 plugin) no problem. So it looks
the Microsoft Visual C++ 2010 SP1 Redistributable Package (x64) file could be the problem.

OK. At least the x32 works ...

I just install the plugin in a complete new computer with the LW11.6 x64 inside, with all install options as default:

a) I try to install the plugin without copy the Octane.dll and Octane.dat files or install the VC++ redistributable ... I get the same problem as you have (0 plugins added, no error windows shown).
b) I try to install the plugin with the VC++ redistributable installed, but without copy the Octane.dll and Octane.dat to the LW/bin. I get a window that show a missing "Octane.dll" error.
c) I copy the Octane.dll and Octane.dat, but without install the VC++ redistributable. I get a window that show a missing "vcomp100.dll" error (this is the file that redistributable install in your system).
d) I installed the VC++ redistributable and copy the Octane.dll and Octane.dat. Now plugin install without problems (104 plugins added). All works fine.

No more steeps needed, so I am not sure about what could be the problem. You are in the "a" case, no error window with missing .dll and no plugins added.

I download the VC++ redistributable from this link: http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... x?id=13523

I think that I ask this before, but are you sure that you are using the x64 Octane.dll and Octane.dat files with your x64 Lightwave? ... I also get the "a" case (no plugins, no error windows) if I put a x32 Octane.dll in the x64 LW/bin directory.

All my files are the x64 versions. Ever though LW x32 loaded the plugin, I can't seem to
enable it. It crashes LW. I also installed the x32 version of Octane standalone and it still crashes LW. So I can't get the x64 to load and x32 to enable.

You x32 plugin crash because LW11.6 needs a special build of the plugin, the LW11.6 SDK has some changes that crash the current 11.5 Octane plugin. I am going to compile a 11.6 x32 build of the plugin to test it. I hope to have it in few hours.

At least if we can run the plugin in the x32 LW we are going to have something before try to fix the x64 version.
