This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender for ArchiCAD, build 1.20.1 (STABLE RELEASE). This version is compiled against Octane 1.20.1, so see the requirements for that build regarding compatibility with your video card.

This version of the plugin runs on ArchiCAD 15, 16 and 17 - 64 bit (pls let me know if you need a 32 bit build).

If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- 32 or 64 bit
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version
- ArchiCAD version (ArchiCAD -> Help -> License Information -> Version and Build Number
- OctaneRender for ArchiCAD version (ie. 1.02a)
- In the unlikely event of a crash, pls provide the dump report from the C:\Users\[username]\Graphisoft\BugReporting-[version] folder (on Win 7). Either post or email (to "paul at physicalc-consulting.com") the "ArchiCAD-XXXXXX-FATAL.RPT" file from this folder.

Change Log from release 1.20a
- Built against Octane 1.20.1 (bug fix release)
- New release numbering system to reflect the plugin coming out of beta. First 3 digits = Octane API version, and 4th digit = the plugin release number for that Octane build
- Fixed a bug related to the saving of proxies and displaying of proxies for scenes where there is a story BELOW the ground floor
- Implemented loading of a background image (Setting tab Additional Option). This is not working correctly yet.

About the proxy, is there a way to copy a proxy from a project to another one with all the materials included ? (let's say i have a car with all the materials applied, and i want to copy to another project).

Thanks.

Good question. The Octane materials for a geometry proxy are stored in the ArchiCAD scene, rather than against the host Object. So duplicating the Object within a scene will bring acorss the materials, but that won't work if pasting to a different scene.

So at the moment, your best option is to export each car material and then import each material into the car in the new scene (once the car has been loaded as a proxy). If your proxy object only has 3 materials, that should work fine, but if it has 25, that's going to be a slow workflow. I could modify the plugin to either a) allow a proxy material to be saved as a default (so it is always loaded for that OBJ material name), or b) have an option to export all materials for a proxy into a single file, and then allow all those materials to be imported (into the new scene). Option a) is probably easier to implement.

Hi Paul,
With my latest Ivyscene I had to make 5 or six different ivy OBJ and combine them n Archicad.
They have the same material names for the 2 kind of leaves and for braches, but because the OBJ names are different I had to adjust the materials 18 times. I made a material export it and import it for the materials, but still had to mport that 18 times
So if I understand you correctly your option b) would have made this easier; export the materials for the from the first OBJ and import it 5 times for the other 5 OBJ (with different name, but having same materials).
Greetings, Jeroen

Experimental update (so a different installer link to that above). There were a lot of changes required for the enhancements in this build, so pls do not use on a commercial, time-critical job until you are comfortable with it's robustness.

1.20.1.5
- Added Copy and Paste buttons for proxy objects. Select a proxy host and click "copy" to copy the proxy info into the proxy clipboard. Then select a proxy or non-proxy Object, and click "Paste" to paste that info. Best to do this whilst the Octane Viewport is not open.
- Added Material tab Addition Options command to "Save Current Proxy Materials to Defaults" - so you can save the current proxy materials to defaults so that when you next load that proxy into a new scene - it will pick up these materials as the default. The OBJ filename gets added to the start of the material name, so the material defaults are specific to that particular OBJ filename
- Selecting a material via the material picker now activates the Materials tab in the Setup dialog
- HIGHLY EXPERIMENTAL! If you have not assigned a proxy to an Object, and the Object has an "OctaneProxy_Obj" GDL parameter, then the "OctaneProxy_*" parameters will be used as the defaults to convert that Object to a proxy. Once converted, use the standard proxy dialog controls to adjust the settings (the "OctaneProxy_*" will be ignored after the Object is a proxy host). The parameters are....

"OctaneProxy_Obj" (Text) = the full path and filename (incl OBJ extension) of the OBJ proxy file
"OctaneProxy_ScaleAllAxs" (Boolean)
"OctaneProxy_XScale" (Real Number)
"OctaneProxy_YScale" (Real Number)
"OctaneProxy_ZScale" (Real Number)
"OctaneProxy_XRotation" (Real Number)
"OctaneProxy_YRotation" (Real Number)
"OctaneProxy_ZRotation" (Real Number)

(see screenshot below). This means in theory you could build up a library of GDL proxy objects, which could be a huge time saver. However my ArchiCAD skills are wanting, so I found this system a little clunky to use, but hopefully it will address John's requirements in this area.

That is correct Jeroen - included in this test build.

Hi Paul,
This new copy-paste is really cool! Thanx for implementing this feature.
I also tried this: copying AC object with proxies assigned and paste them into another empty pln that is open at the same time. The nice thing is that it copied the objects with the proxy already assigned!!! That is super. Only it did copy it to only one AC Object when having moe AC objects assigned with the same proxy?

And indeed... it is better to copy and paste the proxy settings, because two times I had a quick Archicad quit when trying doing that with the OR Viewport open.

greetings, Jeroen

Hi Jeroen. Can you pls send me the crash report? I thought I stopped the ability to copy from one scene into another, but it appears not! In theory it should be ok. Did you get the crash when copying from one scene to another, or when copying within the same scene?

Just to confirm....

1) You can copy an ArchiCAD Object which is a proxy host into the ArchiCAD clipboard, and paste it in another scene. Remember to save all the proxy material as defaults first so they get picked up when you paste in the new scene.

2) The plugin proxy clipboard is cleared when you open a scene, or start a new scene. So you cannot "copy" the proxy info from one scene proxy into another scene proxy.

So in summary, to get the proxy info from one scene to another, use the ArchiCAD clipboard to copy and paste the ArchiCAD Object. The on-line manual has been updated to reflect this.
And indeed... it is better to copy and paste the proxy settings, because two times I had a quick Archicad quit when trying doing that with the OR Viewport open.
I was unable to reproduce this Jeroen, so would be interested if you can reproduce this reliably.

I have send you a bug report.

The bug came when copying proxy settings from one AC-object to another in the same scene.

Hi Paul,

"Implemented loading of a background image (Setting tab Additional Option). This is not working correctly yet."

I can load the "background image". What does not work correctly?
