@HHbomb
85 % of this scene is using xref files.
All the trees, bushes, grass, cars, lamp posts are Xref Objects.
Also i have almost 100 lights in this scene.
I am using 5.5 Gigs of 5.6 available on my Titans (rendering 6000x4000, i can not render 7000px because is too much for video memory).
I don't know what you call a "real scene" but this is as real as it can get.
Long voxelissation times come from many objects that you are putting in your scene. Render fails maybe because you hit the limit of your video card ?
Try this: Import all your objects in the scene and if it renders fine, than it's an Xref Object problem, if not, than something other is wrong. The idea is to have the same amount of objects but with and without havein them in xref files.
Need octane proxy object

Have you set movable proxy option to any objects?lixai wrote:@HHbomb

Can I some how have your scene for test? That would be so helpfull for us to optimize octane engine.

hello lixai and Karba
Forget, forget, forget....
I replace my instances by xref objects with a soulscriptblurtool which don't keep movable proxy option....
Karba, your engine is a nice piece of software and works fine.
So my 3dsmax file is 50Mo now (it was 600Mo), cool.
sorry for the "real scene" lixai,... and thank for your help.

@karba
I am uploading the scene right now on wetransfer, you will receive an e-mail.
There are 104 lights, MultiScatter Objects, RailCone Objects, lots of Movable Proxy Objects.
I want for this render region
No, I am kidding
I want render region and motion blur
Hope this will help making octane faster and better.
@HHbomb no problem, glad I was able to help you
You can complement me on my nice big scene
and post yours.

hi lixai, it was too early in the morning (5am) to take care of anybody
You are right, it is a pretty nice scene with a nice mood.
Can you give more info on lightning and rendering setting ? Thanks

hi HHbomb,
So, this is the final version of that render, a bit of photoshoping. Render settings was PCM (about 15 hour render on 2 titans 6000x3000px, hope after giving the scene to Karba, it will help him optimise octane to make it faster), there are lots of lights (104) some are IES, some are plane lights, colors varies from 2800k to 5600k temperature.
Scene was lit with HDR file that you see in the background.
Also rendered a AO version, with all the lights in the scene turned off (only HDR). That render was fine in about 20 minutes.
And the rest is usual architectural post-production.
I left a bit more space in the sky because this will be a 3.2 x 2.4 meters printed panel and there will be some text inserted.

Very good scene. I do a industrial complex at the moment and this is a great insporation of quality to match.
One little thing which is distrubing are the red lines without some kind of blured vehicle at the end of it.

thanks, i know what you mean about the blured vehicle, let's pray for motion blur, and that won't be a problemmbetke wrote:Very good scene. I do a industrial complex at the moment and this is a great insporation of quality to match.

Pardon my ignorance,
But can someone explain what an Octane Movable Proxy does? What are the benefits? I'm fully familiar with Vray Proxies, but I don't fully understand Octane Proxies.
As far as I can tell (and I'm likely wrong), but when I convert to Octane Proxy, there is still geometry in the scene. I can still see my poly count go up when I instance them.
What is the advantage?
best,
O
