Where are all the Blender heads?

You've been out of the loop...arnaud wrote:I think it could be more active if a plug in to integrate blender in octane would be available.
I'm not sure that otoy are on way to develop one? :/

True, and i agree they could have used a Blender plugin much much sooner. Jimstar talks about the problems developing a plugin for Blender keeping in the legal guidelines for Blenders opensource license. I think they shied away from doing it for a while because of these difficulties. If Jimstar didn't have to make absolutely sure there is nothing in the code we shouldn't be able to see, I think we would be in Beta right now. Hopefully Beta happens soon :/
Once this goes live, I think we will see a large increase in Blender users. The small price tag for Octane makes it a logical next step for Cycles users (especially if they already have CUDA cards).

??Where are all the Blender heads?
That's still the question...seems like a lukewarm response so far judging by the
threads.
I thought OR4B would sell like gelatos on hot day in Naples!

Maybe it will go viral once there's more positive feedback.
There should be some tutorials to go with it, though. So far I'm winging it
trying to compare the settings for StandAlone.
Don't hesitate...just get it.

I am not really sure they have satisfied the license conditions so I am holding off buying it + I am not really sure Otoy is actively developing things I would prefer. Tending to think I won't bother upgrading much more and will stay with v1.xx stand alone. Honestly I don't have very demanding render needs anyway. It might be good enough as is. Cycles continues to move ahead for artistic purposes quite well...

I like it a lot...it makes setup so much easier.
AND it rendered the same scene 3.6x fasterthan Blender2.68/Plugin 1.19/StandAlone combo.
I found I can also have at least 2 instances of OR4B rendering at the same time (not sure if the speed is decreased), as well as an instance of StandAlone (if you wanted).
You just can't have the Rendered mode on in more than one instance at the same time (at least
I couldn't).
The only advantage of StandAlone so far is the Live Material DB, but OR4B is supposed to
get it down the road.
Too bad there isn't a demo so you can try before you buy. Maybe they could just have a temporary license. Once you try it, I bet you'd wonder how you ever did without it.
