in vray, I use vray compositing tag, in c4d, I use built in comp tag, usually, when I want to hide something or if I want to integrate,

I tried to apply the c4d compositing tag in octane, but is not working. Is this a future dev?

I`m trying to apply a ground plane over an HDRI, so I can get some shadows, like so, first 15 seconds:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=huuF0WLE1f4

Thanks!

octane works in a different way so you can't expect exactly the same functionality of the compositing tag.
anyway, if i have understood correctly your needs, you can assign to the plane an octane diffuse material and activate the matte option in the basic tab in the attribute editor, play with the diffuse colour and opacity and that's it ;)

after messing with it for a couple of hours, couldn't make it to work

In the attached you can see that the material has matte and diffuse enabled, and tweaked every setting in the diffuse channel, with no luck.

On the left is a quick HDRI setup in c4d Gi, which shows how the ground plane is catching the AO/shadows from the model.

Hi Aoktar, just wanted to see if this was implemented in the latest release.

Eg: apply environment tag, and hide the HDRI from the camera

I suppose you need to activate importance sampling option. And disable keep environment
