How to mask simple geometry?

Hello. Here is my question, can I stencil (mask) geometry by bw image?

An image in a material mix should work.
Use the image texture in the amount slot.
Use material1 for a material for the inner part and make material2 diffuse, which has opacity 0.

Couldn't you just use a black and white version in the opacity Chanel?

Yes, this would be much simpler and work as well.

Also I found another solution to use png as image and as alpha image texture. This is much simpler than to use mask for material. ;)
