I am sure I must be missing something but when I try to choose some materials in the LiveDB the preview is very different from what shows up the render window. I notice this particularly with the silvery metal materials. No matter in texture environment or daylight I cant get the material to match. Here are some examples. I am using the 1.1 release.

And there is no Chrome material in the DB? I would think this would be one of the most popular materials.

Yes, I also noticed some strange behaviour for some metallic materials ...

I think this is because of old materials were created without using Fresnel parameter.

for chrome, just make black glossy with almost 1 reflection, low roughness and 0 fresnel.

Sorry still a noob with this program where is a "Fresnel" slider listed under the material properties?

If I choose Aluminum from LiveDB, then choose it with the Material Picking tool this is what I see.

If you mean the "Index" Slider then yes I get this in my bottom photo. No to be obtuse but if anyone is new to this I just want to be sure I am choosing the correct slider and not missing a Fresnal Slider somewhere

That's correct, Buzby, It's the index slider. Sorry for typing the fresnel slider

Nothing very important, but It's a bit annoying not to be able to use the LiveDb materials as if. We are now obliged to tweak some of the most useful each time we use them ...

Thanks for the help teecee2107 just trying to clarify for anyone visiting :)

Yes I was going to say something about this as well. I absolutely love the renders and why I bought the program but...it seems like we are really on our own in the materials dept. and this in my book is HUGE. I think quality materials and rendering are absolutely inseparable. You cant offer one without the other. This is why people spend so much just to get VRay materials. I imagine they must be working on bigger fish to fry but this is really an important issue, and I hope it gets addressed soon with a professional materials and textures library. It's a little hokey for the customers to try and put together a library on their own as not everyone will agree on a filing system for a material. The materials are mixed in different areas and need to be more properly categorized. I'm searching in C4d for one material, LiveDB in another, and my materials don't look the same when I import from C4d to Octane. My apologies if someone is already working on this but this has really killed my progress.

Maybe folks are just used to making their own materials but I really depend on people who do a lot better job of it that I do!
