Is there a way to produce grass in Octane, either in the standalone or with the Maya plugin? (ie using Maya fur, or instances/references of low-poly geometry, or some such?) I haven't seen any shots featuring grass, which is a must if I want to use Octane for arch-viz.

There are many grass examples made with the Octane for 3ds Max plugin: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iu6dQ3J_fBc

I'm also interested in this, but I don't understand.
The Octane Render 3dsMax Plugin's manual doesn't speak about istancing at all.
So how to achieve this result?

hi, some of these use multiscatter (itoo software) and/or forestpack along with the 3dsmax plugin. also, a discussion about some of images is here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=5&t=22537 and here: http://render.otoy.com/forum/viewtopic. ... 3&start=10 hope these will help you out.
to use instances you have to set "movable proxy" under Octane Properties for the object you want to move around (chapter 2 section 8 of the december2012 manual). Right click on object/octane properties/set movable proxy and have a play with the setting
