i Again, Paul

just tried the 1.0e version:

The real-time color refreshing is really a great step forward in creation process !
For the color picker, it is a very good idea and works well... excellent ! Should il be possible to make appear a planar multicolor panel on overlay to make the ability to pick some color non existing on the screen ?

Concerning the mouse tweaking, it is very good too but i see one problem: the tweaking is linear and low for some values, can you add a middle-mouse hold to make the value grow faster when dragging the mouse with this button hold ? (I'm not sure of my english sorry if you have some problems to understand me :) )

Thanks again for following so seriously and with talent the user requests !

I saw your poser physics blog , i'm impressed by your studies, it is nice to have such collaborations between programers and picture-makers !

or perhaps just an alt-midde click and control-middle-clik to change the increment ... (?)

Yes, I'll might add a rainbow type auto-color picker bitmap. I'll also include a button to access the old color picker. I will do this in the next version - probably available mid-next week.

Concerning the mouse tweaking, it is very good too but i see one problem: the tweaking is linear and low for some values, can you add a middle-mouse hold to make the value grow faster when dragging the mouse with this button hold ?

I'll look at some options. Maybe just holding down Ctl or Alt increases the amount the mousewheel moves the slider.

Do you plan to insert custom paths for materials, picture textures, environment textures: it will be (again the same song :) ) a gain of time and smoothness !

These could be separate folders (at the moment they are all the same). I'll need to think about this. At the moment I have a Win7 library for "OctaneRender for Poser" folders - which can easily be accessed from the file open/close dialog. Then I have subfolders from there - so it's always easy to get to the content. At the moment, the plugin remembers the "last" folder you access. But it could be that it remembers separately the last "material import" and "material collection export" etc.

The material-clicking in poser viewport, and the import/export and copy process of materials are wonderfull ( should it be possible to assign a defaut CTRL+C & CTRL+V for copying-pasting them directly with, for example, the first option by default ? )

Good idea - I'll see if this is possible.

Your plugin, even in the 1.0d version, is so great to use and it works very well

Thank you - tell all your Poser friends :-)

hi Paul

pleased to see the suggestions seems to fit with your views.

For: "At the moment, the plugin remembers the "last" folder you access", you're right and it is usefull. I'm just talking about pre-definided folder because it is a native option in Octane, very usefull for configurations like mine ( i've mapped networked drives with letters: L for Maps, W for materials, O sor objects and so on ).

About telling about your nice work with poser friends, i'won't miss to talk about it but i'm a very 'newbie' with poser (bought 10 days ago bundled with a lightwave 11 upgrade offer).
My domains are rather lightwave, Blender and Maya ( an old '6.0' 8-years licence old, still very good ) and i've a solid experience with these softs.
About lightwave, i've seen the preview of the new octane plugin, which announce to be very complete ( with graph and so on) and powerfull. I'll get it, and naturally, that the one which i'll use in the future, because of software knowledge and power of the soft, BUT if the poser plugin is very quick and intuitive to work (like it progress actualy), surely i'll keep on using it ( principaly for still picture compsiting and character animation) ! And i'm sure that a well-thinked (artist friendly) interface with simpliest way like this one can take advantage on a more complex one ( and perhaps more powerfull but more heavy to use too...)

I can see how separate folder defaults in the OctaneDefaults.py file might be useful. I'll look at it in the next week or so.

It's also interesting to here how people find there way to Poser :-) Yes, the lightwave plugin looks really fantastic. Happy to put in a recommendation for you when they are calling for beta testers.

I have re-uploaded 1.01e. It contains:
- A fix which was causing a lock-up when refreshing the scene after making a prop or figure invisible
- The color selection dialog now includes a colored button which accesses the old color select dialog

Pls re-download 1.01e from the link a few messages above in this thread.

"Happy to put in a recommendation for you when they are calling for beta testers." > with a great pleasure of course ! thanks !

for the new release, i'll download it, but not sure i can test it today because i'm very late with pictures i've to make for clients: learning poser ( customize and transform custom models in poser figures with weight paint particulary), in association with lightwave import, eated almost 1 (very) complete week to learn and test :) !

About Poser<->Lightwave<->Blender, i've some good results with formats exchanges via DAE, but big problem with the camera focal and position conversion for the POSER CAMERAS (not the same, and apparently impossible to make coincide for compositing ). Perhaps should you have a tip for that, it would be Highly appreciated ( sorry, i'm outside of the plugin domain...). The conversion between blender and LW works very well after some tweaking...

For the feeling with Poser himself, i'm not used to use this kind of 'specialised' software: it has some advantages ( more simple et effective with specialised functions like IK etc... ) but i suffered mostly with the camera navigation ( no way to use the alt-clicks of pro apps for zooming/rotatiing, moving ). But after some pratice, it is easy to make some production ( with of course more limits advanced settings but it is not the goal of this kind of applis... )

This is a big topic! In summary, for ortho cameras (ie. the Poser Main Camera - and not dolly cameras), the camera position (as required in Octane Standalone) is 1 poser unit (approx 2.6 meters) BEHIND the camera position as stated by the Poser Camera transX, Y and Z coords. Set your units to Poser units to test this fully. To convert focal distance - multiply the Poser Camera focusDistance dial by 2.6.

For "fov" - it's the "Focal" dial in the Poser camera and there is a calculation you need to do using a filmback width of 22.

All these calcs are done in the OctaneRender for Poser plugin to get the scene in the camera coords required by OctaneRender Standalone. LW and blender may have different camera systems, so there may be some other calcs to do there.

There is also PoserFusion - which may help - http://poser.smithmicro.com/poserfusion.html.

thanks a lot for this , i'll read this more deeply after.
For blender / LW, i've found a good way to make them fit together via DAE ( Blender TO LW, but not the inverse :/ ).
I use poserfusion but sadly, it doesn't import camera parameters in LW, it is a failure on my opinion ( and a big miss) ... the maya version seems to do that, but can't try because not compatible with maya 6.0...

I noticed in the OctaneDefaults.py that you use a scaling factor of 2.62128.
Is this independent from the internal Poser settings (units, meters, inches) or should I use a certain setting in Poser to get a 'real world' scaling to Octane?
That might be important for settings like SSS...
