Yeah, I would want one for sure!

I won't use more than 3-4 GPUs, so no interest here.

Im thinking about other PCIe extender solutions.

I've searched for such a case that let me insert double height GPUs, but of course its not available. So, Im thinking about designing a double width case to be able to use motherboards with 7xPCIe16 and PCIe 7cm flat cable extenders.

I got a engineer/product designer, that has just finished some camera accessories products, and I was thinking about getting him involved since he has experience in CNC etc etc. Since its a low volume product I guess the cases wont be your average cheap one, but closer to 1000 Euro or something. But surely alot more cheaper than "PCIe extender" products.

Now... How many would be interested in such a case!? I thought of having double width, with room for up to two extra PSUs (on the "GPUs side of the case", good ventilation etc. Maybe heatsinks etc.. There is simply no idea pursuing this idea, if its just me that is interested in this type of case, then I will build something crappy at the local metalshop instead.

If you have any thoughts/ideas. Please let me know :)

*edit* It seems the poll function doesnt work? Please write instead then hehe

That`s funny, I started drawing some layouts for a case like that!
As a designer/eng myself, I would go for a custom midrange aircooled case. 200,- max.
Production can be cheap!

whersmy, do you have any production facility? I know production can be cheap, but that suggest larger quantities. Thats why I run this poll.

Nope, I just use the ones at my uni.

It totally depends on your design though. What machines can I use, and what are the materials that can be applied? Within those borders you can actually design something and still keep the price low, without too much handwork.
I am thinking about perforated steel with a sandblasted finish as the main material.

I think the idea for custom cases are spot on, but it is not easy.

Just for the record, for sake of input =) I say NO.
& if You interested why, here I'll explain a bit =)

First of all..if You want to feed 7x cards, You probably, just because of conectivity, would have to go for Xeons on the CPU side =) here's the first problem: they are pricy & 'slow', 'cause Octane Render is curently act really pathetic on voxelisation.. So basically Your high priced part that run somewhat slower than i5/i7 is going to bottle-neck Your whole system (cheaper hogher clocked i5 would probably beat them easily)
..not so long ago I've read in this forum that even HyperThreading slows down voxelisation..
so long talk short: 7cards ~> Xeons ~> to slow for the price..

Second reason is the price. For 1k On case would expect it & overall rig to look at least that good:
http://www.million-dollar-pc.com/system ... ox-mk2.htm
And if You have ans know how to handle some tools Youd probably could do some pipe'ing and routing cooling for that price not only case mods..

Thirdly..if You don't want to mess and make Your hands dirty here's probably the best solution i've found to date & it's called CaseLabs http://www.caselabs-store.com/ - You can choose from a lot of different base options and then actually modify these before purchuasing for You own needs.
The price is right for what they deliver (if You need these could even be flat packed - that might be a bit cheeper if You want to send overseas.=)

All in all..even if those 4cards are not enough for You, the company that I mention makes dual cases - for two boards =) and if.. For any reasons..power hungry cards or simply redundancy..You can put even four or more power bricks..
So with all this in mind, I probably explained why from me it's NO =)

But! But! But!

If You manage to make One =)
please, do share Your outcome in this forum!

Cheers.

Thank you for the feedback.. Im not sure how I could put together the case I was thinking about with caselab, but since they had a vast amount of accessories Im sure it can be done. They need to get some more pictures working though :) I surely wont pursue this if there is no interest. I got plenty other projects Im working on, so I probably just build something crappy for my own use :)
