Refractive Software®/Otoy® is proud to announce the availability of a new version of OctaneRender™ for Maya®
The world's fastest and most feature-rich unbiased render engine that integrates completely into Autodesk® Maya®.

Maya® Version Requirements

This release will work with Maya® Versions 2011, 2012 and 2013 / 32-bit & 64-bit on MS Windows operating systems.

Notes regarding features/functionality

OctaneRender™ for Maya® implements almost full functionality of OctaneRender™ standalone inside Maya®. Materials from the Live DB are currently not available.

COMPATIBILITY AND OCTANERENDER STANDALONE REQUIREMENT

To run OctaneRender™ for Maya®, you need to also have an activated OctaneRender™ Standalone copy activated on the machine you wish to install the plugin onto.
You cannot purchase and use only the Maya plugin and use it without also owning an activated copy of OctaneRender™ Standalone on your machine
.

HOW TO PURCHASE LICENSES

Go to our online shop here: http://www.refractivesoftware.com/shop/

If you do not own an OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition License yet:
You can purchase both the OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition and the OctaneRender™ for Maya® Edition as a reduced price bundle, purchase the bundle priced at 179€

If you already own one or more OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition licenses you want to pair the plugin with:
Purchase an "OctaneRender™ for Maya® Beta License" priced at 99€

You can also purchase a 3, 5 or 10 pack of OctaneRender™ for Maya® licenses,
just like OctaneRender™ Standalone Edition packs.

OCTANELIVE

Just like OctaneRender™ Standalone, the Maya® plugin product also needs an additional OctaneLive license and be activated on a machine.
This has to be done in the plugin interface panel in Maya, and is covered in the included PDF manual.
It can only be done after an OctaneRender™ Standalone license is already activated on the machine in question.

This is the "quick-fix" version.

BUG FIXES SINCE LAST RELEASE:
  • Fixed the "movable proxy particles not rendered" bug.
  • Added the "almost finished frame" endless cycle workaround (jmfowler reported).
  • Few minor bug fixes...

The OctaneRender™ Team.

Please check if this release will work OK on your rig.
If the second frame will be rendered OK with this version - please, look at the Octane output (it is important to sort out one thing for me): do you see the warnings like "Octane: rendering has stopped at 7999 spp (from 8000)"?

"// Error: Octane: Error in mesh function set constructor of mesh: "|static|plate_shards|shard40|shard40Shape" //
// Error: Octane: Error mesh export. Octane render stopped. // "

Geometry is procedurally generated shards, it looks like some of them contains degenerated geometry, i.e. it's a mesh with 0 points.
I think would be nice to just continue mesh translation on such errors.

Yes, it is reasonably. I will change to this behaviour in next version...

It is not the plugin related question.
You should do it standard Maya's way. Perhaps you need to learn how to use the Maya user interface: the square next to the option name is for options window opening (related to this option). And as Octane does not need any additional options for batch render in addition to standard ones - it does not have these options, and says about it if you press this square instead of just starting the batch render (the Maya's standard "Maya Hardware" and "Maya Hardware 2.0" renderers do the same).

out of curiosity - what was/is the bug that makes it fail like it was?

the following image was the message that I was getting , but now there's no problem.

Image

see where it says "7999 samples per pixel of 8000" it was then continuing to says this indefinitely without moving onto the next frame.
