Even though I did get it to work on Windows, on a Macbook Pro Retina. Felt it wasn't worth the hassle at the moment.
Trying out Blenders Cycles instead on Mac, which also works on my iMac and with renderfarm.fi.
Will be watching Octanes progress and probably jump on in the future when it works better for my Macs! Good fortune Otoy!

SOLUTION TO "Unable to determine network connection type - please contact Refractive Software Support."
You can install OpenVPN instead, from
http://openvpn.net/index.php/open-source/downloads.html
which will install a virtual ethernet adapter that will work with Octane. Use the appropriate x64 version here:
