When I open up the material browser in Maya, as soon as it attempts to render the preview ball, Maya crashes.

Maya 2013 64bit
Win 7 64 bit
2 GeForce GTX 260 cards
Driver version 301.42

I hope this is where I am supposed to post this?

1. What version of plugin you have?
2. What you mean "material browser"? Hypershader window?
3. Can you post here the .log and .dmp files that Maya makes after crashes (they are located in "c:\Users\<user>\AppData\Local\Temp\")?

I meant the Hypershade, but anytime you see the shader ball.

OctaneRender for Maya 2.58n beta.exe

Thanks for getting back so soon!

The crash is happened in ntdll module, and unfortunately this dump file does not contain the info about Maya's callstack..:(
And I cant reproduce it on all scenes that I have...
Can you give me the scene in which you get this crash?..

I should have mentioned - there is no scene, this happens any time I just open up Maya and try to create an Octane material and once it tries to render the shader ball, boom - crash...

Im not quite sure Maya isnt generating a .log file - Its only generating a .dmp file

Ill send it allong again, (Im sending the last know .log file as well just in case) Im about to try and re-install Maya and see if that will help, this is killing me!

Also, I tried this in Maya 2011 as well and it does the same thing.

Thanks again for looking into this!! :)

Does the Octane standalone opens and renders OK on your system?..

Yes, It works great, thats whats so weird, Im a little shocked no one has run into this before...

Let me know if there is anything else I can do to provide more info!

Thanks

standalone V 1.0 Beta 2.59

One other thing, the render settings dialog box was not working when I first installed Octane for Maya, I disabled some plugins and it seemed to help, although somtimes it goes blank still. I had MentalCore and Substance installed, but deleted them...

Im not sure of a way to tottaly disable all previously installed plugins - maybe that would help? i decided against re-installing Maya since 2011 wasnt working as well, and had the exact same issue, but maybe they are sharing some plugin I installed... hmmm

The thought about some plugin than may interfere with Octane is reasonable... At least you can try to disable all (not enabled by default after fresh Maya install) plugins and see if it will change something.
It is indeed very strange, as nobody got the same repeatable crashes in 2.58n... We should kill that beast.;) If it turns out that some plugin is the reason - I will fix it, just need to know what for plugin...
I think too, that reinstalling Maya will not help if you have the same in 2011 - the problem is something common between your 2011 and 2013 installations... Perhaps some plugin... Perhaps some special settings in both installations which others do not use in their Maya's...

What will be helpful too: all Octane messages that appear in Maya's script editor may be helpful (these during Octane plugin loading too). You may also try to do that way: before opening the Hypershader, enable "Verbose mode" in Octane render settings, open Maya script editor window, and then let Maya to this crash, and after Maya's message about crash appears - make the screenshot of the script editor messages area content.

Here is a screen grab at the time of crash, I turned on Verbose mode - does that generate a file? not much data here Im afraid....

I will try a re-install and delete all my prefs (i do that a lot so Im used to it) hehe - thats why I dont use custom interface anymore! :P

let me know if this helps at all...

Thank you! Very helpful screenshot!
I will analyse this info some time, will be back tomorrow (it is already night here)...
I already see some warnings that usually do not appear when Octane works. And I see that the preview material balls perhaps are not the reason of the crash - they are started to render, and rendered well in the first "low res pass"... I think something other just stopped the preview balls render process after first pass was already succeeded...
Will be back later.;)
