Hi;

I'm getting this weird glitch when I try to render a simple sphere with material X applied to it.

I didn't share a debug file and/or a hip file, because this seems to be quite persistent and should be easy to replicate.

1- In Houdini v 21.0.512 In the obj context, create a mesh.
2- Create a Mat net and an Octane Vop and inside it. Dive inside and create a materialx standard shader and connect to an Octane Material Out node.
3- Assign the material to the mesh.
4- Get an IPR render.

Yeah the issue is that the default in mtlx node for normal value is 0,0,0 but Normals usually should default to 0.5,0.5,1. So the numerical value here should be ignored.
This should be fixed in the next release, but in the meantime plugging in a normal node should fix the problem.
Happy Rendering!

I'd highly recommend it!
