This is the recommended thread for downloading, and posting any questions, suggestions or support queries for OctaneRender 2024 for Modo - TEST and STABLE release.

SOLUTIONS TO COMMON ISSUES
  1. Make sure your NVIDIA drivers are up to date.

  2. Refer to the Troubleshooting section of the manual at https://docs.otoy.com/ModoH/ModoPluginM ... ooting.htm

  3. Cuda error 999 - failed to load shader code: Multiple definition of 'cpSptStatistics' in 'cuda_teturemode' means that your plugin version is too old for the Nvidia drivers that are installed, so update to the latest version of the plugin.

  4. The Octane Greyscale Vertex Attribute is not working for a mesh : make sure Kernel->Render Cache is disabled, and Live Geometry is enabled and Load Cage is disabled for the mesh.

  5. How do I copy Meshes between Modo scenes? Please see viewtopic.php?f=34&t=75794&p=389534


Modo Version
Windows : Modo15, 16 and 17 on Window 7, 8 or 10 64bit
OSX : Modo17 on macOS Somona, and only on Apple Silicon
Linux : Modo15, 16 and 17 on 64bit Linux

To use this version, you need a GPU of compute model 3.0 or higher. Support for Fermi GPUs (like GTX 4xx and 5xx) has been dropped. Also make sure you use a driver of version 452 or higher on Windows, 450 or higher on Linux.

Network Rendering
For Network Rendering, you must use the Octane slave release from the Octane Standalone installer which matches the exact Octane version of the plugin you are using.

Support Issues
If you have a support issue, pls provide the following information:
- Modo version
- OctaneRender for Modo version (ie. 2.0.10.16)
- Operating System (ie. Win XP, Vista, 7, 8)
- Amount of RAM
- Graphics Card(s) - model (ie. GTX 580, 3GB)
- Nvidia driver version

Prior to reporting issues, please try Modo->System->Open User Folder->Shutdown Modo->then delete the MODO[version].CFG file and restart Modo.

The most important part of resolving a problem is me being able to re-produce that problem. So pls provide as much detail as possible in order for me to do this, and if the problem is specific to the scene, send me the scene.

Important:
  • Use Nvidia driver version 552.22
  • When the Studio+ version of the plugin is installed, you must disable the Prime version of the plugin when comes with the Modo17 installer. To do this on Windows, go to System Properties->Environment Variables->System Variables->New->Variable Name = NEXUS_KITDISABLE, Variable Value = OctaneRender_Prime

Current STABLE build (Octane 2024.1.2)
  • For users with a Prime license Important:
    • To install the PRIME version,
      1) If you have set the NEXUS_KITDISABLE environment variable to OctaneRender_Prime, delete this environment variable
      2a) On Windows, delete the C:\Program Files\Modo17.1v1.202577\modo\extra\Scripts\OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder
      2b) On macOS, delete the OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder from the Modo17.1 application Contents->Extras->Scripts folder
      2c) On Linux, delete the ~/Modo17.1v1.251515-Release/modo/extra/Scripts/OctaneRenderForModoPrime folder
      3) Install the OctaneRender for Modo PRIME 2024.1.2 version of the plugin
      4) Ensure you have OctaneRender_Prime plugin DISABLED and the OctaneRender plugin ENABLED in the Modo->System->Kit Toggle Enable menu
    • On macOS, when the 'Octane Improvement Project' dialog shows, press the Enter key to bypass the dialog box.

2024.1.2.202 (18-Mar-2025)
- Compiled with Octane 2024.1.2
- Fixed issue where the Mesh Round Edges Visibility option was setting the Curvature Visibility
- Fixed pin names on the Octane Multiply Texture node
- Resolved issue where the Octane Texture Layer->Texture node was missing it's property sheet
- Added support for the Modo Directional Light (creates an Octane Directional Light). The Modo Directional Light "Spread Angle" is used as the Octane Directional Light "Light sample spread angle"
- Added experimental support for proxy delay, speed-up, start time and end time. These controls are on the Mesh item properties under the Proxy file name. Ensure you have Kernel->Camera Motion Blur enabled to get this working.

2024.1.0.201 (9-Oct-2024)
- Compiled with Octane 2024.1
- Added all the 2024.1 features from viewtopic.php?f=33&t=82267
- Added the Output AOVs "Apply LUT", "Open Image Denoise", "Texture" and "Dither for 8-bit display" nodes from Octane 2024.1
- The "Output AOV"->"Apply Imager and Post Processing" node from Octane 2024.1 has not been added to the plugin
- The "Value"->"Time" node from Octane 2024.1 has not been added to the plugin
- The Cast Shadows property has been added to Directional Light->Toon Lights
- Enable Deformers is now ON by default in the Modo 3d Viewport in the OctaneRender layout
- Changed Modo Photometric light support so the it uses Distribution->Projection->Coordinate Space=Normal Space. This should improve the light matching between Modo and Octane
- Fixed crash where there is no render camera assigned in the scene
- Fixed issue where Image Sequence Clips with End Behavior = Repeat were not repeating the first image
- Fixed issue where the Light Pass ID for a Modo light could not be set higher than 8
- Fixed issue where Kernel->Light Linking Invert was not working
- When adding Material or Material Layer nodes to the schematic, the default BRDF Model is now GGX
- The Save Preset button now allows the Octane "Object Size" and "Max Samples" to be set. The Object Size is the size in meters of the object that will have the material in the preview image. The maximum samples per pixel that should be rendered in the preview.
- Reworked how the plugin loads into Modo so that error reporting is handled better when both Prime and Studio+ versions are installed

Hi Paul,

thanks a lot for sharing the new 2024.1 Plug-in ... at least for Windows users.

I know that it is not your decision to distribute the Mac Plug-in via Foundry, but this is awful.
Modo 17.0.8 still ships with the buggy V199 of the Plug-in although V200 is out for months now.
To get V200 to work on my Mac I had to download the Modo 17.1 Beta, extract the V200 Plug-in from the package and copy it into Modo 17.0.8.

I'm curious when Foundry will ship the V201 Plug-in with a stable Modo version ... maybe on Christmas? :lol:

Seriously: OTOY must give its Mac users the ability to install the Plug-in by themselves again.

Foundry are responsible for shipping the Prime versions of the Modo plugin. They have had the 2024.1.0.201 macOS plugin build for a few weeks now, so it will hopefully be released in the next Modo17.1 test build, and will definitely be in the final stable Modo17.1v1 build.

just got a mail from Foundry.
Modo will be discontinued after the release of 17.1

In light of the Foundry's EOL announcement for Modo, do you know where that is gonna leave us Modo users...especially on Mac?
Modo 17.1 (when it comes out) will have the latest octane, but that won't last forever as Modo will not receive any more updates.
Are we then pretty much stuck on Modo16 for any further Octane releases, or will we be EOL on Octane for modo too?

Hi Toby

Not sure I completely understand your comments around 17.1 verses 16 versions. My current understanding/assumption is that Modo17.1 installer will contain the Octane 2024.1 PRIME plugin. The Octane 2024.1 STUDIO+ plugin is already available at the top of this thread. As new Octane releases become available I am anticipating doing a STUDIO+ release, and /probably/ a PRIME release. I think the PRIME release will need to install into the Modo17.1 program folder where it is currently installed via the Modo17 installer.

Hey Paul,

Yep, you answered it :-) I wasn't sure, because 17 comes with and "inbuilt" version of octane, if this would be update-able when you release newer versions.

Paul,

Help. Just updated to Modo 17.0.8 and followed your instructions to disable the PRIME Octane Plugin, in order to get the latest Studio version working.
As soon as I open Modo, I get this error: Unknown Command "octane.command init"
The Octane Render Tab (workspace) is empty. In the Octane Menu (Top Bar of Modo) there is no OctaneRender Viewport item, just OctaneRender Setup and Authenticate.

What have I done wrong?

Are you on Windows, macOS or Linux? Which version of the Studio+ plugin did you install? Did you try deleting your MODO*.CFG files?

Sorry for the missing info. Windows 10. Studio Plugin: OctaneRender_for_Modo17_2024_1_0_201_STUDIO.exe...... Deleted Configs, yeah.
