This is a production release of the OctaneRender™ 2024.1.0.0 for Houdini™ plugin compiled with the Octane 2024.1 core. This 2024.1.0.0 release is available for the latest Houdini production builds on Windows x64, Linux, and macOS arm64.

Houdini production builds supported by this release: 19.5.805, 20.0.724, 20.0.751, 20.5.278, 20.5.332.

If you are not sure if your Houdini version is compatible with the plugin - just run it and you will see an error message in case of incompatibility.

Linux Note
On Linux only default Houdini builds are supported.
This means that for Houdini 20.0 and 20.5, gcc11.2 builds are supported, and for Houdini 19.5, gcc9.3 build is supported.

Known bugs
On Linux, MPlay IPR may not be working. If you are having problems with it, please switch to QT5 IPR and disable "Render to MPlay" in ROP nodes.
Octane is still working on supporting OCIO V2.3 (the version that Houdini 20.5 uses). The workaround for now is to use the Houdini 20.0's OCIO files when you use Houdini 20.5. e.g. You can use 20.0.751's OCIO file by adding the below line in your houdini.env file for Houdini20.5.

Common Issues and Solutions
- If the plugin doesn't work at all, set HOUDINI_DSO_ERROR = 2 in houdini.env and check for messages in the terminal.
- If you're missing libglut.so.3, install the freeglut package.
- If you are having any issues with the Deadline - please submit a support ticket to the AWS.

Thanks for the release!
Noticed a bug? If there are 2 standard materials in an octane material builder, switching between them doesn't cause a live update in IPR. Need to reload manually. Let me know

I agree. There's some changes that used to automatically update the IPR are no longer doing so. IPR needs to be updated manually.

Hey there! There will be some more updates for IPR coming - there had been some other changes and some things had to be re-worked.

From the 2023.1.3.5 release page:
"Update IPR after obj/sop node is deleted (This is the first step to improve IPR updating)"

Volumes don't work at all in this release. The volume shader is not responsive.

Interrupting (cancelling) rendering to disk still causes Houdini and Octane to crash fully. Old bug. It happens as I found out when the scene load mode is set to UPDATE and not FULL RELOAD. Also I had a break from work and now I came back straight to 20.5 from 20.0 with the latest Octane and noticed something weird is going on with rendering to disk in UPDATE mode, not sure why, even just working in 20.5 sometimes even though I have a cache node with "load from disk" on, Houdini cooks DOP node above despite the fact that there is cache node and no simulation should be processed by Houdini. Weird shit. I don't recall anything like that happening before ever

Hey there, unfortunately this isn't happening on multiple machines and previously had different users test this very issue. It is either specific to your scenes or setup (software plugins / hardware) - as you know it is difficult for us to fix something that we can't reproduce... :(
Please send us another scene you know this is happening on and we will try again.
