In Mac's Retina display environment, the resolution is 144ppi compared to the normal 72ppi, so the resolution of LiveViewer becomes too high and wastes power.

I think it would be more comfortable to use if you could set it yourself, such as displaying the rendered version at 4 times the size.

You can do this already. The image render resolution and display size are independent. If you set your desired render resolution in Render Settings, then use the "lock" icon in the Live Viewer, it will render at that res by default. In the Live Viewer, however, there are also two number fields that allow modification of the image render and display resolutions, based on the resolution set in Render Settings. The left field is a render resolution multiplier, and the right field is the display resolution multiplier. With the left number set to 1.0, you can then scale the display resolution from 0.1 to 8.0 x the base res.
