I´ve been trying to use portal to see the optmization and all benefects of this new feature, but I´m getting no results.

What Am I doing?

1: I put a simple plane convering all the window from outside
2. The normals are inwards in direction of interior of scene.
3. There are no glass in my windows
4. Render in PT or PMC (not using directlighting).

The image below shows my render with and without portal, there are no differences.

Maybe someone of Octane Team could explain why portals doesn´t work for me, I see some people getting good results with portal and I can´t do it.

Am I doing something wrong?

Thanks

If you done everything that you provided on the list then also check that alphashadows is ticked in render kernel and that you have one polygon for the portal. The more polygons you have the less efficient eg. slower render time.

For a brighter image you need to increase the exposure, using portals doesn't change the brightness of the image. It should result in less noise for the same amount of samples in your scene.

Can you check the images you posted? It seems you have put the same rendered image on both sides of your comparison.

Hy Guys,

MaTtY631990:
Thnks for reply! I do not ticket alpha shadows. Maybe is this the reason? I will Try! About polygons, I put a simple plane with 1 polygon.

Roeland:
I understood that the portal could bring more lightness to scene. About the images, there are not the same I had careful to not repeat the same image, this is to show that for me it´s not working, portal don´t do any difference. But now I understand that portal only results in less noise and not more brightness. That´s right?

Yes, portals do not change the final rendered image, but they allow to render an image with the same image quality faster than without portals. Note that you indeed need to enable alpha shadows for portals to work.
