Hi,
just downloaded the demo for octane, and am very excited based on the videos that I've seen. When I run the 8000.exe it loads up fine, with the full UI and everything, and I can even import geometry, but as soon as I click on the mesh node to start the render it closes the application. It doesn't give me any kind of error message or anything, the window just disappears. I'm on an old 8800 GT (which I plan to update soon but is still supposed to work with the renderer), running windows xp. Is the older GPU the source of the problem, or is there something else I can try? I would really like to take advantage of the half-price beta, which I know will expire soon, but I don't really want to buy it before even seeing it work...
Edit: Sorry, didn't see the "bug report" forum.
Also, my processor is an Intel quad core.
Instant crash on attempted use...

Did you install CUDA driver and toolkit?EvilHomer wrote:Hi,

The half-price will only expire when the features are done (see the Features page)I would really like to take advantage of the half-price beta, which I know will expire soon
That give you enough time to fix your problems

What you can do is download a Nvidia driver 192.xx wich contain the CUDA driver also
The download should be around 100mb or so
Uninstall your old driver, reboot, install the new one
Check if Octane launch correctly, check the device manager in Octane before trying to render
I already use Octane on my 8600M GT so your 8800GT should be good

It can crash at random points (material editing for example) at least what I got after several tests with various models.
If the program crashes directly after the obj loading I guess it's due to an overload, too many polygons or ram exceeded.
But the demo scenes should indeed work without problems.
8800 is really an old card, I think I have to update it also soon

Exactly same thing happened to me and I have an 8800gt, you need to install the latest nvidia drivers, then you'll be fine.
