Hello, I'm using Substance Painter to create materials, and then use universal material in Octane for Blender.
If I connect a roughness map and normal map together, I become expected results. But If I disconnect the normal map, octane ignores roughness map, and it looks like roughness is set to zero.
I can not understand why. Is it the expected behaivour, or am I doing something wrong?
Thanx.

Hello, when you connect a roughness map and a normal map together in Octane, the normal map affects the surface's microsurface details, which in turn influences the roughness of the material. This means that the normal map indirectly affects the roughness of the material by changing the surface's microsurface properties.

When you disconnect the normal map, Octane no longer has information about the surface's microsurface details, and as a result, it assumes a default roughness value. In many cases, this default roughness value is zero, which gives a perfectly smooth surface.

To achieve the desired result of using the roughness map without the normal map, I think you should adjust the default roughness value in Octane manually. By increasing the roughness value, you can simulate a rougher surface appearance without relying on the normal map.
