Hey, guys!
I was so glad to try new stable octane 2022.1 in C4D and made some tests to see how faster is it not, but unfortunately octane 2022 showed worse result than 2021.1.6 RC7
On small renders it is 3-10 sec difference, but on large it can be over 1 minute per 1 frame!
Maybe I did something wrong? Who faced with it ? I was working with Enterprise license and 2022.1 is Studio +, is there any difference ?

So how I tested it, I've just opened projects that were done and rendered by 2021.1.6 RC7 and just rendered it by 2022.1

C4D version is 2023.1.0, Laptop is Lenovo legion pro 5 with 3070RTX

Here are the pictures of viewport render time for example, same resolution, same settings:
Image ( 6:43 - 2021.1.6 RC7 ) vs Image ( 8:13 - 2022.1 )
Settings are the same :
Image v Image
Image vImage

Thank you for any help, appreciate it.

Hi,
please always enable the Lock icon in Live View, when you compare render times with the same scene.

If not enough, can you share the scene, even via Private message, so we can check?

Hi Beppe!
Thanks for your message.
I was making full screen preview render, so resolution was the same.
Here are the files for this scene. There are some trees, but on test I turned them off.

Still the same piece of software, just under a newly introduced "all-in-one" license.

What about the driver?
Is anything else running in background?
Both Path Tracing Kernel?

What about the driver? - Last driver from nvidia experience
Is anything else running in background? - Nothing was running background, pure test.
Both Path Tracing Kernel? - yes, you can see on screens

Big thanks for the scene!
I have forwarded it toi the core devs, and it was very useful to spot on a couple of issues in 2022.1 SDK, great!

The core devs will try to fix them for the next update.

Happy GPU rendering!

Yes, it is not c4doctane related, if you export the scene to Standalone, you have the same behavior.

Is there any way to avoid this ~20% difference in speed with the current 2022.1 release? I’ll be starting a project soon and would love to upgrade to the latest release for this, but with the performance penalty I’m hesitant.

I'm still using 2021.1.6 It's very frustrating that Octane team made new release slower than older and not fixed it still. I tested around 7 different scenes and render time on the new version is drastically slower. Minutes, not even seconds sometimes on big scenes. So need to wait, but if it goes like this way forced to change to Redshift. We will see....
