Hi,

I'm using octane plugin for C4D 2021.1.6-(R3). I watched tutorials how to render shadow passes for comping in AE / Resolve. That's all set up fine. what I notice though is the shadow catching plane is also visible in a reflective Sphere. Some say you don't need a shadowcatcher material, but even if I add a material to the plane it is still visible in the reflective sphere. Is there a way to have a shadow catcher plane and have it not show up in reflections? I assumed a shadowcatcher material would do this... any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

Hi,
in short, Shadow Catcher material is not good for your needs, it has several limitations, for example, cannot work correctly with mesh or area lights.

You should need to use the Render Layer technique for correct Shadows and Reflections AOVs, in fact, Black layer shadows AOV works correctly only if Render Layer and Alpha Channel options are enabled.

Please have a look at the documentation here:

ciao,
Beppe
