Dear Forum members,
Refractive Software(R) is pleased to announce the availability of an OctaneRender(R) SDK (Software Development Kit) containing a binary library and C/C++ API that enables integration of the OctaneRender(R) rendering engine, the most advanced and fastest spectral unbiased GPU based renderer, and it's complete node environment functionality into other applications.
The SDK supports various ways to interact and use the OctaneRender(R) engine, including full interfaceless integration, remote control with and without interface, and all these via either linking, pipes* or a network* protocol.
The SDK is available with 2 types of layers:
* C/C++ Low level SDK: Allows full control of OctaneRender from a host application and it's scene database via low level Node/Nodegraph interaction commands.
* C/C++ Rendering level SDK: Allows full control of OctaneRender from a host application using render engine specific methods.
The SDK is not publically available at this moment, please contact Refractive Software LTD for further information about licensing the SDK.
For information, please send an e-mail to info at refractivesoftware dot com
Yours,
The Refractive Software (R) Team.
Features marked with a '*' = will be available in approx 4 weeks from the date of this post.

Radiance
could this therefore be used to create direct plugins for Octane to be used from within 3D apps. Like for example Vray within 3D max ?

CPU:-AMD 1055T 6 core, Motherboard:-Gigabyte 990FXA-UD3 AM3+, Gigabyte GTX 460-1GB, RAM:-8GB Kingston hyper X Genesis DDR3 1600Mhz D/Ch, Hard Disk:-500GB samsung F3 , OS:-Win7 64bit
Fantastic!
If I'm reading this right, it means that high level integration means that this could be developed into an engine directly editable and interactive in the environment it's working in ( such as C4D, LightWave, Blender, Max, Maya, etc... ).
Hoping that these are in the attainable pricing range that other tools are, but I want you guys to stay in business and not short change yourselves either
.
Looking forward to seeing some direct plug-ins to software start cropping up in the next 6 months.
Is there a cost for the SDK? or is it available freely to anyone who is approved to develop?

CPU - i7-950 3.06 Ghz, 24GB Ram, Win7 x64, 2 display monitors, GeForce GTX 580 3GB Classified. I'm glad to say I LOVE OCTANE!
And it is important that this SDK licensing type do not conflict with open Blender... Otherwise that may be obstacle to integrating Octane to Blender. As it was first with 3DConnexion 3D-mouse drivers - Blender foundation has rejected to add 3DConnexion support due to its licensing issues after wich 3DConnexion has altered their licensing a bit to let it be added to opened Blender.
Just thinking...

Great news. Clusters, SDK a lot of good stuff.
I hope somebody will get the hands on Octane for Rhino3D. That would be appreciated by many.

Can we have a python wrapper library included so we can call the APIs from 3d modellers that allow python scripting?
