Hi community,
now I'm using a desktop PC with an Nvidia 3090 card, after 20 years on Mac.
I would like to take a second machine with an Nvidia card to be able to render in parallel and have a backup machine if needed.
I hesitate between a desktop PC with an i5 processor and a 3070 card and an MSI laptop PC with an i7 processor and a 3080 card, it's about the same budget, do you know if Octane runs well on a laptop , is it reliable?
Here is the link on the MSI laptop: https://www.ldlc.com/fiche/PB00493774.html
Thanks,
Question about desktop and laptop PC for Octane

Hi,
since your workstation has 24GB of VRAM, doesn't make much sense to have a second machine with only 8/10GB of VRAM.
Better to have a second desktop machine, but with another RTX 3090 24GB, and possibly 10Gbit connection for fast Network Rendering.
ciao,
Beppe

hi,
- i would not go the laptop way,
- i would go for a 3090 founder edition at 1650 euros, vram is really the nerves of the war having vram parity with your config is important. founder edition have air extraction in the back which is better imo.

- a decent AMD Ryzen 7 5800X would be good enough at 430 euros
- not so expensive mobo around 100 euros
- 512 ssd + 2TO hdd
you can reach the 2500e imo if you assemble it yourself
