Hi,

I wondered if there was any way/plans/interest in being able to funnel an Alembic directly over to Octane without needing to parse it in Houdini; effectively acting like a Packed Disk archive like we're used to with Mantra ?

I have a project which requires quite a bit of system ram in Houdini, but I could bypass the geometry load by parsing an Alembic directly to Octane if that makes sense ?

Yes, loading alembic files directly using the Octane core is possible, and in fact, I have this feature in my TODO list to implement it along with the Octane 2022.x dev cycle, but anyway Octane needs to read and parse the file to extract the mesh data, perhaps as fast as the Houdini plugin itself, so let's see if this feature means something from the scene pre-processing time.

Thanks,
-Juanjo
