Here is the next try of the Soft2Octane plugin for Softimage ;)

Changes in this version:
  • There is now a quicklanch menu in the main menu bar. You can also use alt's +s as a shortcut.
  • Some little changes with strands, they should be better exported at the start and the end of a strand. Also an issue with near lying points on Y is solved.
  • An animation now can cancel correct.
  • The issue with wrong geometry, especially normals, in an animation is solved.
  • The Native Unit Size is changed to Decimeters, also as standard option. It has only a cosmetic effect, because a 1x1x1 cube is always 1x1x1...
  • The Scale under Resolution in the Export Configuration tab is expanded to 125, 150, 175 and 200%. So you now can render larger images as the scene defaults.
Usefull to scale larger images down to remove fireflys.
Hope i have nothing missed, have fun...

Thanks, problem with normals seems to be solved. Can you tell how "skip rendered" option works? Now it doesn't see already rendered using another exporter.
Frame padding option would be useful here.

Again, well done with normals!

It should jump to the next frame without export/render, if an image with the name image_xxx.png exists. But i will check it...

I will see what i can do ;)

Flawless victory! ;] Canceling animation render works great! It did crash Octane and XSI the first time i tried, but since then no crashes occurred. Great job, thanks!

EDIT: I did find a little bug. Stereo distance is not respected. I don't really know if it's the stereo distance parameter or something else (maybe scale), but the result from render animation is much different than what you set in the ocs.

Stereo distance is a Si2012 feature which i haven´t implement.
I will take a look when you can specify it a little bit more precise ;)

I meant that when i set up the scene in Octane, I set stereodist in thinlens node. Then when i render animation i get images with much larger distance between left and right eye. I see now that the value stays the same, but results differ.

Thanks for the release.

There a two bugs/issues i've found:

The skip already rendered frames option isn't working anymore.

Canceling the animation didn't get better for me, for me it's even worse. Softimage is completly freezing.

Softimage freeze ever because the plugin is running and wait to export the next frame ...
But you should have an extra window in which the timeline is shown, include the chancel button.
You can switch to the window with alt&tab.

Hello, again. Normals still not perfect (but better).
Here is an illustration. I need to make a loop, in softimage frames are equal.
Rendered using 2.49 release.

Alternative octane exporter works fine with it, but crashes too much due to memory.

Have test it with a turbulized deformed grid with an animated center.
In the first cached ice tree, the center moves from left to right, on the second i have added a subtract so that the turbulized center moved from right to left.

The animation is 100 frames long. I blend between the two cached data like the image.

I don´t see any difference between an animated and an unanimated export. The booth seams to be the same.
I have load the exported meshes in Modo and have delete the surface normals. The result is, that the normal calculation in Modo is the same as the exported ones.
I have also export the deformed mesh with the Softimage standard obj export. And again, the result is the same.
If i reimport the exported meshes, the animated, unanimated from the plugin and the Softimage standard obj-export back in Softimage, they looks the same as the original.
I don´t know who the error can lie.

Maybe you can send me the zipped scene/mesh or a linke where i can download it?
