Im using houdini for a cloth sim and exported vertex attributes as part of an alembic tag. The colors work perfectly in redshift but as soon as I drag the vertex tag into octane node builder in C4D, the whole application crashes.
What is the correct way to use vertex color maps in c4d? Is it supported?
Octane crashes when using Point Color Vertex Maps

Yes supported and crash doesn't mean that. There may be a wrong usage or a bug. Report it via a sample scene if you can't solve that and read this section

I recently was experiencing the same issue. Exporting a liquid sim from Houdini into Cinema and looking to import Cd. I was using a Cd value consisting of 3 float values (R,G,B) and it would look fine inspecting the tag in cinema, but Octane would crash.
Luckily for my use I could get away with using Cd value consisting of one single float (black>white). This now works fine in Octane. My hint was that in the octane manual it only shows the red>yellow values being used so I don't think more complex tags are supported.
