Thank you, maybe you can help me acheive this effect that Adobe Stager produces with the ground plane.paride4331 wrote:Hi Carl S.,
Shadow catcher will get any shadow as it should be.
In order to get reflections you will use the render passes even using Render layer ID.

There are shadows, bounced light from the 3d object onto the plane, and reflections.
Thanks for your time.

Thank you, sorry for not explaining myself clearly. I am looking to capture the reflections from the 3d object, bounced light from the 3d object, and shadows from the 3D object only, similar to how the matte shadow only captures the shadows from the 3D object. Using the method you described above I still get reflections from the HDRI environment without the bounced light/color bleed off the 3D object onto the plane. The matte/shadow/reflection material in Adobe Stager can catch the 3D object shadows, 3D object light bounce/color bleed, and 3D objects reflections without capturing the HDRI enviroment reflections all in one pass, one render.paride4331 wrote:Hi Carl S.

It can also capture caustics. Similar threads going back awhile, it seems we need an updated matte material desperately.

Thanks, not exactly what I am looking for as the 3D objects still have reflections and I am looking to composite this on an backplate, not a 3D scene, also I don't have time to render an animation twice. I really appreciate your help and I beg you to think about a shader than can accomplish this all in camera with a single render. I unfortunately have to switch to Vray and use the VRayMtlWrapper for this.

Hi Carl S.
Usually composite workflow should be used.
In any case here are a couple of links could help you.
It has been slightly updated in Octane v2020 but This concept remains similar.

Hi, Paride
It is something a lot people need for fast compositing.
I think one thing Otoy could do is to add "Affect alpha" option to all glossy materials.
Specular material can do, why not glossy ?

as you know it does not depend on the plugin developers, the request must be submitted to the developer SDKs.
