I have a video card that thinks I'm mining, the power consumption in octane has sharply increased and the computer cuts down after a while

Can you elaborate a bit more, not sure what do you mean by computer thinks you are mining? But if you mean crypto currency (BTC, ETX, XMR...) mining then that would use way less power than when rendering 'coz for crypto mining you need to tweak settings which then leads to 20-30% decrease in power usage (GPU clocks also, fans curve) so GPUs are cooler and less power hungry when properly set for mining than for rendering.

Only thin what comes to my mind is that if your GPU is shutting down your computer then it might be PSU problem or GPU problem in general not Octane per se.

P.S. most energy hungry is denoiser.
