Hey guys, having problems with all the textures linked to objects using Octane scatter being disconnected when exported as an .ORBX.

When I view the scene in Cinema 4D with the Octane Live Viewer, it works perfectly. Every texture is perfect. I can even render it out of C4D perfectly (but taking too long so I need to use RNDR for that).

I export the scene as an .ORBX and open in standalone and all the models in the scene that use octane scatter (so all the plants for instance) come out grey with no textures... Thought this may be just stand alone based problem, so I uploaded to RNDR, it rendered the same thing with no textures on the scatter objects... any help?

Thanks!

Hi,
please check to have not c4d shaders in your missing materials, they are not supported in both Standalone and ORC/RNDR.
If you have c4d shaders in your scene, that are not c4d Noise o Gradient nodes, they are baked on the fly into texture to make them work with Octane, but Standalone cannot have this option.
If you go to c4doctane Settings/C4D Shaders, you can disable the Auto Baking into texture option, and enable only the OSL option for c4d Noise and Gradient:

In this way, you should have the same result in both Live View and Standalone, and you can correct your materials removing the not supported c4d shaders.

Hope it helps,

Hey Beppe. Thanks for the reply (sorry been busy on another job so I just came back to this one). I only have Octane textures in my setup. I tried your suggestion anyways, still having the same problem. Only the objects using Octane scatter don't have textures, whilst everything else in the scene comes out perfect in the standalone.

Hi,
could you share with me an example scene that shows the issue via Private Message?
If too big, please share a screenshot to dropbox, or wetransfer, thanks.

Yeah sure, will do.

BTW, I've tried this same scene (and many others like it) on 2 different computers and having the same issue. So it's not specific to one scene / one computer.

Was this glitch ever resolved? What turned out to be the problem and how did you fix the issue? I was considering use of RNDR for a scene that uses scattering, but after reading about all of the problems people are having with RNDR (and the long stretches of time between when a post is made and when someone from OTOY answers), I’m wondering how serious of a product this is, or if RNDR isn’t fully-baked yet. Thanks.

Hi,
there are no issues with Octane Scatter and RNDR, in normal usage.
RNDR is designed to work with more than 26 different Octane plugins, so you cannot have C4D Materials and Shaders in the scene, or they will not be exported to Standalone/RNDR.
If it works in Standalone, it works also in RNDR.

The forum is not the faster way to have feedback from RNDR team, especially if the discussion is not in the proper RNDR section.

I am experiencing the same here. All materials comes through ok on everything but the Octane Scatters (I have 6 of these in my scene). Very weird.

This one is from C4D → https://www.dropbox.com/s/4kpl4vq2borj0 ... e.png?dl=0

And this one is from ORBX, rendered on RNDR → https://www.dropbox.com/s/k3vqat37x09dg ... e.png?dl=0

I'll be happy to DM ORBX to whoever may want to unpack this and maybe give a tip on why it is happening. To me, it seems that ORBX seem to cannot read materials applied to an object nested under Octane Scatter?

Hi,
please save the project with assets, compress the resulting folder, and share a link to it with me via Private Message, thanks.
