I did not follow this development tightly, so please excuse if I ask something obvious here... What will be the oldest MacOS supported by the final version of Octane X? Will this be Big Sur, or Catalina, or even Mojave? I'm planning to upgrade my old MacPro 5,1 with a Radeon 580 card (now running Nvidia 1080), but I found out today that Cinema R21 - the version I am using - is not even running on Big Sur. I do not like to upgrade to R23, anyway. If Octane X will at least run with Catalina, all would be good for me. It's a complex puzzle...
Specs: Apple MacBook Pro M1 max 64GB 2TB, MacOS 12.5 / MacPro 5,1 with NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 8G, MacOS 10.13.6 / Mac Pro 5,1 with AMD RX5700 8G, MacOS 12.3.1 / HP Z600 with NVIDIA 3060 RTX 12G, Windows 10 pro + Netstor GPU box, 4 x NVIDIA GTX 980ti 6G.
Hi,
please note that C4D R21 works perfectly under both Catalina and Big Sur, you can have issues with R20 (not fully 64bit), but R21 should work as expected
https://support.maxon.net/kb/faq.php?id=58
About AMD Radeon 580, it is a Polaris GPU, so only supported by latest Apple Metal driver in Mac Os 11.x Big Sur.
Catalina has a limited number of supported AMD GPUs, while Mojave does not support GPU rendering in any way, no Metal, no CUDA rendering on 10.14.x.
So, Big Sur 11.x is the best choice, Apple has stopped to develop the metal driver for Catalina, and in 11.4 is going to arrive the support for new AMD Big Navi 6X00 GPUs.
Happy Mac GPU rendering,
ciao Beppe

Thanks Beppe for the informtion. The link is not working, unfortunately... I've however seen a lot of informations in different forums about R21 not running under Big Sur.

@ 3dworks: sorry, Maxon has removed that page, here is the new one:

@ nehale: yes, for C4D S24, you need to keep the R23.xdlib file, and remove the other .xdlib unused files.
ciao Beppe

I can now confirm that my Macpro 5,1 upgraded with opencore and one RX580 8G seems to work well with C4D R21 and the last plugin release under MacOS Big Sur 11.2.3!bepeg4d wrote:Hi,
