Hi There,

The wonderful tool that Architects love about SketchUp is the ability to do section cuts.
This is a great way to illustrate buildings and architecture in general to the clients and few rendering software are supporting this (as far as I know : Vray and Sketch FX/Ambient occlusion).
It would be such an amazing thing to have that enabled in the Octane Plugin.
To understand What I'm talking about, see the image attached of a simple rendering done with sketch FX with section cuts enabled.

Please, make it happen :)
Thank you,
Slim

Hi,
while waiting for Section Cuts, a workaround is to use the Near Clipping Plane option in the Thin Lens Camera node:

If used with Orthographic Camera option, you can obtain the classic section views.

Hi Beppe,

Thank you for your reply!
I knew about this "trick" but sometime one wants to have a section perspective view with specific angles. And Sketchup has the ability to "fill" all those cut materials with a specific hatching or color that makes it very "Architectural" (using Skalp plugin).
That is the real deal :)
I was just wondering if someone at Otoy was working on this...

Thank you.

Hi Slim,
the new 2021.1 SDK is going to introduce the new Boolean Geometry Shader Clipping Material, that could be used in future for section cuts:

Happy GPU rendering,
