Hi all,

This is maintenance release 2020.2.1. It mostly fixes a variety of bugs but we also back-ported the automatic selection of the intermediate color space from version 2021 as it seemed too useful to not have it in 2020.2 yet.

You can find an overview of the changes between 2020.1.5 and 2020.2 in the release notes of 2020.2.

Make sure to use a NVIDIA Studio driver with version at least 456.38 on Windows or 455.23 on Linux to use this version. No driver updates are required for macOS 10.13 (CUDA).

This version supports the NVIDIA Ampere architecture (compute model 8.x) on Windows and Linux. As a consequence, Kepler GPUs with a compute model lower than 3.5 are only supported on macOS (which doesn't have Ampere support) and needed to be discontinued on Windows and Linux.


Changes since OctaneRender 2020.2:

Improvements:
  • Added option to automatically select the OCIO intermediate color space to the application preferences. This is enabled by default, but can be disabled to allow manually setting these.
  • Added possibility to move layers of the composite texture / AOV nodes up and down or delete them from the list.
  • Brought back the dialog that allows retrying activation when the connection with OctaneLive has failed.
  • Lua: octane.scriptgraph.onEvaluate() doesn't return a value anymore.
  • Lua: Added documentation of octane.scriptgraph.onTrigger().
Bugfixes:
  • Fixed bug causing moving instances to disappear when subframe start would be set to 100% in the animation settings.
  • Fixed crash when an OSL shader has two outputs.
  • Fixed crash when an OSL shader has a struct as input parameter.
  • Fixed render failure when rendering a preview of a toon material.
  • Fixed render failure when texture displacement is used on a mesh with no UV coordinates and RTX is enabled.
  • Fixed AI denoiser on macOS by updating cuDNN to version 7.6.5.
  • Fixed volumetric spot light cutting out geometry with a material priority less than 0. This is because the volumetric spot light had a default priority of 0, so if the user tries to set the scene geometry with less than 0 priority, they will be cut out.
  • Fixed rendering of fake shadows of nested dielectrics that have SSS.
  • Fixed missing attenuation if a toon material is indirectly visible, e.g. behind some tinted glass.
  • Fixed material opacity not using the correct opacity when using mix material inside a layered material node.
  • Fixed incorrect reset of material layers if a mix material gets changed and is used inside a layered material node.
  • Fixed incorrect rendering of Vectron nodes with object layer / material map nodes if connected to an OSL texture with an _sdf input.
  • Fixed various render updates missing under certain circumstances.
  • Standalone: Fixed rendering via batch render job nodes for scenes with no animation.
  • Standalone: Updated batch render job GUI to disable render jobs without a render target from being selected.
  • Standalone: Fixed a crash if a Lua script writes an OCS/ORBX file while running without a GUI using --no-gui.

Opacity setting has no effect when Toon Material is used.

- Load the scene
- Start the preview
- Change the Opacity for the Toon Material

it will always be 100% opaque.
