But now finally one of the boxes just shut down while rendering and shows us the dreaded "00" startup display on the Motherboard, meaning either CPU or Mobo gave up. And thats fine - after pretty much abusing these boxes for 3 years, we were wondering when they would actually blow up.
Now we are of course considering if we should just replace the mono or cpu or actually upgrade to a new system architecture, like the X299 boards? Does it even make a difference?
We looked into the Asus X299 saber or the Supermicro C9X299-RPGF boards, basically switching to the newer architecture with the newer I9 X processors (Especially since they are cheaper then our older I7 6850 model - btw why is that? )
Anyway, just wanted to see if anyone could point us in the right direction, whether we rather replace our older X99 mobo or CPU - or upgrade to newer X299 architecture and I9 processors? Any Pros and cons, thought's and insights. Or is there maybe even another better option for our 4 x GPU render systems?
Thanks so much for everyones help and input, much appreciated.
Best,
Martin
