I have tried this in modo 14.1 and 14.01

I can create a material preset, and assign a material with an Octane override to it.

It works fine, I can change the linked preset while the file is open.

As soon as I re-open the file, it tells me there is an error, it cannot create the override, and the scene crashes automatically.

I get the following message before the crash (see attached), as soon as I try to re-open the file.

I have contacted Foundry as well about this

What version of the plugin are you using please?

Do you have an example scene/preset you can send me which demonstrates this error please?

Thanks

Hi Paul,
I am using
modo 14.1 v1 build 603609.
and
Octane 2020.1.4
Octane bridge for modo 2020_1_4_162

It works fine as long as you add a material preset (with or without an Octane override).
However as soon as I save and re-open a file, it does not work anymore.

I am attaching some screenshot to try to explain this, as well as a simple test file.
Thanks

as well as a simple test file.
As you able to attach this file please? You might need to zip it to upload to the forums.

EDIT: It looks like you are loading pre-built material presets. I do not have these, so having trouble reproducing the problem.

Addendum to the above.....I can now reproduce the error. I will need to investigate the problem, however in the first instance I can tell you that the plugin was never written (or tested) to support the "special" > "material preset" shader tree item. So I will need to see if that functionality can be added to the plugin. In the meantime, you would need to just import the preset.

Thanks

Hi Paul,
thanks for the quick response.

Right, if I use a pre-built Otcane preset, everything works fine.
I can just import this in the scene as usual.

However on large projects, it makes much more sense to be able to use referenced materials (as with the Special Object ' material preset' from modo).
It seems to work fine, also to change materials on the fly, when a file is open.
The error occurs when you try to open the file again....

I will need to do some more work in this, however my current assessment is that it will be difficult for the plugin to support Material Presets, and that in the next release the plugin should ignore these preset rather than crash. I will add support for Material Presets to the TODO list.

Addendum to the above. I have fixed the crash when loading .lxo files with Material Presets assigned to an Octane Override preset. Any Octane Override preset is /not/ loaded into the plugin. I would need a copy of the presets you are trying to load in order to see if loading those presets can be supported.

Thanks
