Hi, dear Otoy team.
win10, Octane Standalone 2020.1.4
So I found a strange issue in Hair Shader. Albedo texture doesn't work in Octane Standalone.
Video with the issue -> https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=F3A6k8iXTxo
ORBX -> https://bit.ly/2FOaqBx
The same in 3ds Max plugin...
Does this happen only on my side and I'm doing something wrong or this is a known issue? =)
Thank you and have a great weekend.
Best regards,
Andrew.

Hey Andrew,
Thanks for your report.
May I suggest you build a lighter scene showing the issue? A furry sphere would work. The scene you sent doesn't work properly on my system.

Looks like there is some issue with the albedo mode indeed, I will look into fixing that in 2020.1.
Here's a work around: plug in the same texture to the specular pin of the hair material

Ok. I will create a simple scene for you a little bit later. =)

Reference from another render =)

Soon I will create more simple scene and record a video to explain what we should improve in Octane =)

Hi, dear Otoy developers =)
So. As I promised, I prepared a less dense scene for your tests - https://bit.ly/2YP4Bdw
But I found a strange issue.
With this simple scene - albedo working as needed,
but with dog - I have stange bug... Specular in this case didn't help.. Why?
Thank you and have a great day
Best regards,
Andrew.

Has this bug been fixed by now? Because the Albedo mode still doesnt work for me (in the DAZ plugin) and the specular workaround also doesnt work...
Edit: Ok so this just getting weird now.
This is how the hair looks with only and HDRI: And this is how it looks with 2 light planes (from above and the side): This is the material (IOR is default value 1.55):
Can someone tell me why this is happening?

So the problem is definitly the light coming directly from above.
This image only has one light plane from above and i set the hair material IOR to 1.1, its still way to specular no?

wallace wrote:Hi,
Yes this issue should be fixed in 2020.2, but only after 2020.1.5.
May I ask for an orbx to confirm this, and also which octane version are you currently at?
This was rendered with the DAZ plugin 2020.1.5. I am not sure if i still have this particular scene saved but i will try to find it.
It should be noted that others on the DAZ plugin topic have pointed out that the issue might have been the fact that this hair is not "strand-based" but a transmapped one. Appearently the hair shader was intended for strand-based hair specifically and will cause problems if used on transmapped ones?
Does that mean after the fix it will work on non strand based hair too?
