Ok.. just testing beta2.48C, and I just found out the 480 gtx actually works about 0.5 % faster than a single 590 gtx core :|
The lowered frequency on 590 gtx makes the GPUs perform as two 480 gtx, not two 580gtx (I knew about the lower freq but still).. very disappointing when you think about it, or maybe it means I can mix in 480 next to 590 knowing they are performing the same (except 480 is loud and hot as hell) - and the fourth gpu card refuses to load in win7 via a pci riser card (any ideas), maybe a good thing is that I know my current setup will last at least a year more - every two years the technology doubles - is it quite so with the graphic card industry.. it has fast development, but still - 480 performing the same as a single core on 590 - which is almost one year newer tech.. - and overclocking in this setup could be a disaster I think I can't really control a single card, only all of them (and 480 runs at 90degrees current).. the 580 core performs about 15% faster than any other nvidia GPU gtx core

Well, NVIDIA spent that one year mainly to reduce the power consumption so far that you can actually put two 480s on the same board. There is no GTX 490, guess why... ;)
