Hi all
I think I may already know the answer to this but im gonna ask anyway. Is there any way that anybody knows of to exclude things like reflections from certain objects like the floor for instance? Im guessing that octane may not allow for this as its an unbiased render engine?
If not is this something that may be planned in future versions as it would be very useful to be able to exclude stuff like we can currently do with the comp tag.
Thanks
Lang

Depending on what exactly you are trying to accomplish, the two RayType OSL nodes can do wonders. Check out Milan's and Calus' great work in these threads:

Wow thats something I wasn't aware of in octane, very useful
Looking at the OSL format of things though, its complicated and whilst that script is very good and does what it needs I wouldn't know the first thing as to how to go about setting one up from scratch. I looked at the script for raytype_contrib.osl which does a really nice job of excluding the reflection or shadows from that given object but its very programmer orientated which is beyond me. Would be really good to see the developers at octane put something together that makes this sort of thing much simpler.

So adding to this thread is there anyway to use the OSL texture to exclude a reflection in just one object in a scene of many objects?
What id like to know i guess is whether the OSL can replicate the comp tag and allow the user to include/exclude some things?

I am trying to figure this out as well. I have environment that I only want reflected in certain objects but not others.

I am also trying to figure this out. It would be sooooo good! So happy for the raytype osl that allows to turn of parameters, but I really need a way only turn of the rays cast on some objevts and not others.
Has anybody figured this out?
