I would suggest one feature. Displacement map channel. I haven not seen one so here is my suggestion since one could use an image to add extra geometry. Congratulations for the developers of Octane Render, really fast.

Best regards

Can't see that happening. That technically is a Modeling tool ( IE altering mesh's/ Polygons). Octane is a renderer. If you include that then you might as well go the whole 9 yards and have an Octane Modeling program as well. :o Normals and Bump do just nicely for now .

(which i'm not suggesting that you do have. .......Just before Marcus has a seizure ;) )

Sorry, for my rants recently... I can understand your requests very well, I just wanted to make sure that you understand our position/problems, too.

Anyway, displacement and other things are certainly good features to add and we will see what we can do in the future.

Cheers,
Marcus

Hi, well, i don't want to cause any trouble. I am using bump and normal maps, it is just that trying out Maxwell render in a friend machine, he showed me this feature, ie. for a grass ground and I tried to reproduce it in Octane. But it was machine consuming also because of the added geometry. Anyway, it was just a thought, not something desperate to be introduced in Octane. Thanks for the replies.

Cheers

actually I've done tons of grass, I've tried simple maps, displacement, plane instances with clip mapping and blade instances. Displacement is my last option. For long shots, textures do fine, for medium clip mapping and for up close blades. Displacement is cool, specially to get some extra volume when you don't have the time for modeling or normal maps won't get you there, but imho is not for grass.

Hello,

I agree with "gmaisg" Displacement mapping could be a great feature.

How this feature is ranked in the roadmap ?

Thanks for update
