Hi,

I would like to ask how is the best way to recording animation in Octane for Rhino.
I've found two methods but both have some issues.
The first: I record animation directly from Rhino command, setting the Rhino to render on Octane. It works but is very slow, because Octane recalculates all the scene to rendering each frame.
The second: I record from the Octane window (Opening the camera animation panel), but this command it simply records each single camera frame positions. Then I need to manually move the cursor, rendering and save each frame singularly.
So I hope I'm doing something wrong.
What is the right way to record the animation in Octane for Rhino?
Thanks,
Roy

I'm Using 2019.1.4.115 - Studio Release of Octane and Rhino 6 SR23 2020-2-24 (Rhino 6, 6.23.20055.13111) of Rhinoceros

Hi Paul,

thank you for your message.
I have not Bongo. So do I need to load each frame of an animation and then to save each separated frame of an animation?
Is not possible to save the entire animation or all the frames automatically without Bongo?

Thanks,
Roy

Hi Roy - probably your best option is to render via the Rhino renderer, with the Current Renderer set to OctaneRenderForRhino. And yes, this will mean each frame needs to be loaded into Octane.

Hi Paul,

thank for your message.
It could be nice if, in the future, there will be the possibility to do the render without loading each frame because having very big maps is more the time to load each frame that the time to do the rendering.
Last question:
Do you think when Octane X will be available for Mac, will be released the Octane for Rhino Mac version too?

Hi Paul,

I've tried to use the Octane render plugin command to render the animation. The Camera Timeline is open. I can choose the shutter speed and frame. How can I save the single image that I see in the Octane Viewport? If I click on the icon "save image", nothing happens. If i close the Camera Timeline window, the camera is resetting to the first frame.

Thanks,
Roy

Roy,
i think Bongo is the right answer here.
Easiest workflow in my opinion is to "Export Bongo animation to ORBX", then you can render the animation with Octane Standalone.

Hi Tomo,
thanks for your message.
Yes, I'm doing this, because I can't find another solution. I think is strange I need to buy another software to save an animation because of Octane for Rhino plugin don't do this. Moreover, I can't understand what is it for the Camera Timeline if I can't save the images either the animation.
But patience will take us far... :)
Best regards,
Roy

The first: I record animation directly from Rhino command, setting the Rhino to render on Octane. It works but is very slow, because Octane recalculates all the scene to rendering each frame.
Try enabling the Setting "Use Viewport Rendertarget Geometry When Rendering". Mouseover this option to see the tooltip "If checked, when the Octane Viewport is open, this rendertarget's geometry will be used when rendering in the Rhino render window (instead of re-loading the scene from scratch). This reduces the time required to render fly-thrus and sun studies."
