Hi all,

I'm wondering how to get light to glow from underneath a plastic part where it would show when lit but then disappear when off? Would it have to be a SS material?

An example in the white text:

A point in the right direction would be immensely appreciated.

Hi,
I would use a Specular material with Medium node for sss, and emission node connected disconnected to medium node, when on or off.
You also need to disable Visible on diffuse, to remove fireflies.

Why not fake it and mix a glossy (for main surface) with a diffuse with emission? Animate the mix to turn on and off. No SSS and no risk of any artifacting.
The glow can be tuned by adding some blur to the mix control texture.
