Hi, dear Maya team =)

So, today I've installed the 2018.1 and first of all - it is awesome and very fast =) But =) Please fix this bug =)

Earlier, when we have 1% hair in viewport - we can render 100% on the render =) But now in 2018.1 we can't do this. Why? What I'm doing wrong?

Please check this video ->

My system specs:

WIN 10, 2080TI, 64GB, Driver 419.35, Octane Standalone 2018.1, Maya 2018.5, Octane Maya 2018.1

Thank you.

Best regards, Andrew.

I'm looking into this, thanks for report...

Could you please define "earlier"?..;)
What version of Maya plugin rendered 100% of Ornatrix hair when the "Viewport Count Fraction" in Ornatrix was set to 1%?..

Hi, @JimStar

I've started using Maya from version 4 =) And in it we can't render Ox Hair =) With 2018.1 - everything is OK, but we have this bug =)

I've said earlier, because I've used Octane for 3dsmax and in it we can render 1% hair in Viewport. Sorry for misunderstanding.

In 3dsmax to render the 1% hair in viewport - we can do this...

I hope this guide will help you to understand, what I want to do in Maya =)

Maybe this is not a bug and we can do this in Maya too =) But I don't understand how can I use this guide in Maya =)) Can you help me?

Best regards,
Andrew.

Yea I already see the issue with this functionality in Maya.
As I remember when I had done this in 3ds Max - there is a host-app-level switch of "render mode" done by the plugin when needed, so Ornatrix sees the current mode by itself and returns the correct hair amount through its SDK when asked. This is substantially different to how everything works inside Maya... Currently I don't see any way to force Ornatrix to "render mode" through its SDK in Maya, and it does not detect the render-mode automatically by itself.
I've already contacted the Ephere guys - hope they'll come up with some solution to this. Usually they are quick enough, so I hope I'll release a fix soon...

This works as expected.

Ornatrix always produces the "preview" result for any Maya-viewport rendering session. I've asked them to make the renderer to decide what result is shown in viewport, but so far there is no such functionality in Ornatrix SDK. When the Octane plugin "asks" the Ornatrix SDK for the full hair-data during the viewport-session - Ornatrix just ignores it and returns the preview-dataset.
You can complain to Ornatrix guys to show them that there is a demand for that...

Hi, Jim =)

Yeah, you're right =) I've asked them and this is their answer:

"Not in the short term. We have some longer term plans to fix this."

Ok. I'll wait this fix and will let you know, when it will be work. Btw, thank you verymuch for fix to the main OCtaneIPR and render. Have a great weekend.

Best regards,
Andrew.
